Just finished reading a nice article on Breitbart regarding

Tony Bennett cancelling his Fall and Winter Tour and

actually Retiring.

He wrote Life is a gift - even with Alzheimers

He finished his two night concert with Lady Gaga last week at Radio City Music Hall.

Excerpt from Variety:

"The two Radio City concerts, dubbed “One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga” – and held in anticipation of the platinum pair’s second duets album, “Love for Sale” (to be released October 1 via Columbia/Interscope Records) – were billed as Bennett’s final New York City shows, with additional concerts to follow along the east coast.

Sadly, however, the Radio City Music Hall shows will be Bennett’s last anywhere, as the announcement came Thursday morning that Bennett’s short run of fall 2021 tour dates had been canceled. The brief casino tour was to have consisted of pre-pandemic concert dates that had been rescheduled for 2021, starting in September and ending in December.

“There won’t be any additional concerts,” his son makes clear. ”This was a hard decision for us to make, as he is a capable performer. This is, however, doctors’ orders. His continued health is the most important part of this, and when we heard the doctors — when Tony’s wife, Susan heard them — she said, ‘Absolutely not.’ He’ll be doing other things, but not those upcoming shows. It’s not the singing aspect but, rather, the traveling. Look, he gets tired. The decision is being made that doing concerts now is just too much for him. We don’t want him to fall on stage, for instance — something as simple as that.” But, emphasizes Danny, “We’re not worried about him being able to sing. We are worried, from a physical stand point… about human nature. Tony’s 95.”

What a marvelous talent.  I saw him oh, probably at least 10 years ago at a well-known quasi-outdoor venue.  He was fantastic, and I'll never forget the blue serge suit.

At 95 and battling that horrid Alzheimers he deserves his rest and relaxation.  Some reviews mentioned struggled some but sang however did not speak during his concerts with Gaga.  Not unusual to remember songs sung for so many many years, long term memory.  He was a wonderful entertainer and he and Gaga became such friends.  He had a wonderful send off with her.

My daughter and I saw him in concert at the Hollywood Bowl -- twice! Probably six years ago. What wonderful evenings -- music, his trademark songs, his aplomb. Such a shame that Alzheimers has taken hold -- but marvelous that his voice stills echoes.

I wish him well.

We attended the first Radio City concert.  You could see it was a strain on Tony Bennett.  While his voice was still strong, there just was something different about him.  When they sang together, Lady Gaga was protective of him. Both did a solo act and then duets.  It was a lot for anyone.

I feel privileged to have seen his next to last performance.

His family is doing the right thing by cancelling shows.

The stress of traveling and performing isn't good for someone with Alzheimer's.

Stress makes it worse.

I envy his family. At least they have the money to give him all the care that he needs and will need as the disease progresses.

Not everybody is as fortunate.

I wasn't.

I wish his family all the best.

They have a hard road in front of them, with or without money.

Taking care of someone with Alzheimer's is one of the hardest jobs there is.

You watch helplessly as the person that you love, declines and becomes a stranger to you.

Their personality changes.

They can become argumentative, combative, and refuse to bathe. Then there is Sundowners.

If you don't know what it is, look it up. It isn't pretty.

Basically, when the sun goes down, that's when they become the most confused and argumentative, etc.

I hope that someday they will find a way to stop Alzheimer's in its tracks.

Until then, all families can do is watch helplessly as this awful disease consumes their loved one.

Whenever we attend an SF Giants game in the City,

when the game ends, the song, "I Left My Heart in

San Francisco" comes through the speakers.  We

love it.

What a talent and a life!  Artists give us so much

to enjoy.

I remember when Glen Cambell was doing stage acts towards the end and it was sad to watch him. The family should have stopped it long before they did. 😢

That was a gut wrenching documentary to watch.

It left me sobbing.
