We have some concerns but not like the burn areas. Many storm drains are cluttered and the water can't drain out so it looks like flooding. If folks didn't litter and trash the gutters, the water drains away. Yes, the youth likes to experience the rain. It really didn't last long enough to be of serious concern. As soon as it finished, the clouds broke up and the wind started and sent the clouds eastward.

Wow @AKgirl2, that's some weather that you get there. I really appreciate and enjoy your posts regarding Alaska. I can't imagine what it must be like to live there. I'd love to visit one day and experience it.

Moonchild I always wanted to see the Hurst Estate: I don't mean to sound superficial. My heart truly goes out to all Californians-fire, drought....floods....

....but is the San Simeon Estate safe?

while i agree with you on the heating bill, i just want to say that i MISS real winter weather and am not trying to rush spring at all.

i really enjoy the colder weather in the delmarva area. it has been a bit too warm for me.

We're supposed to have sunny skies and temps near 60 degrees this afternoon in southwest MI, but by next weekend it'll be back to "normal" winter weather. I'm trying to decide between golf, and just parking a chair in the sun and relaxing with a book. The downside of that warm day will likely be that there'll be fog in the rink for hockey tonight.

@Poodlepet2, the name of the Hearst estate (Hearst Castle) is San Simeon, and there is also a tiny post office "town" of San Simeon with a couple of hotels and not much more ;-) Right now you can't drive north on Hwy 1 much beyond there as there have been multiple large slides all the way up into Monterey County well below Big Sur.

When I lived in LA and drove north to visit several times a year, I never stopped at Hearst Castle to do a tour; just never wanted to enough. My niece and her husband, who have lived on the Central Coast nearly all their lives and are NOT the type of people to be interested in museums or opulent estates - LOVED the tour they took! Go figure ;-)

It's well worth a visit for most people. And for nature lovers, only a few miles north is the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal breeding grounds, very active this time of year 😜

Well, I wouldn't want to venture to San Simeon until things dry out a bit. The flooding and slides are all north of there, but the roads all over the Central Coast are taking a beating this winter.

Two local (to me) wharfs and beaches are closed to all this morning as they are anticipating 30 foot waves.

I like winter, too, but I am beginning to dread it. SF has had virus after virus going around, and the big drugstores have almost run out of OTC meds.

The Mid-Atlantic has not been any better. There was a hideous Norovirus making the rounds and a wicked sinus infection that required one of my friends to receive IV antibiotics. Her face was swollen and she couldn't bend at the waist. Over a week later she still has issues.

Moonchild, sorry about the misspelling of Hearst. I am in love with architecture from that time period. Another spot I want to visit is Rhode Island.

I shudder to think about the waves hitting coastal Ca: I dread seeing the erosion. Mom Nature is always showing us that in spite of what we do, she has other plans.
