The flower traditionally associated with March is the daffodil, narcissus or jonquil.  It's such a burst of hopeful color amid the doldrums of lingering winter...

Some have said the shape of the daffodil is apt for March, since the shape of it suggests a trumpet heralding spring...

The daffodil is also the national flower of Wales, worn on St. David's Day, March 1.

The two gems of March offer such intrigue.

Beautiful aquamarine, evoking the sea:

And mysterious, earthy bloodstone:

Although not born in March, I have a bloodstone bead necklace.  The beads are deep mossy green, with striking little drops of red.

An interesting saying about March, a variation on the old "coming in like a lion..", etc., is:

"March comes in with adders' heads;  and goes out with peacocks' tails!"

March is the month of cherished holidays, loved ones' birthdays, and the promise of spring...

Beautiful March.  Happy birthday March babies!

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth (also commonly known as "Daffodils")

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

I had a feeling that any reverie on March would bring out those rarefied literary allusions.  And you two did!

Oh, yeah, @SilleeMee -- snow and cold lots of places still.  Does the mountain west get daffodils, or some other kind of narcissus in early spring?  The other blazing yellow "banner" I look forward to early on is forsythia-- I imagine you have that too...

@Oznell

Yes we have daffodils here. I think they come up in late April. Our planting season doesn't start until after Mother's Day.

It's been such a mild winter here in NOLA that the azaleas are blooming already.  I don't remember ever seeing them this early.
