Thank you all for your kind responses. I forget that NYC is a big place, sorry for not providing a point of reference. We are staying in the Herald Square area, about a 6 block walk from Macy's. In wanting to satisfy the whole group, we need to stay pretty tried and true to American dishes, Italian. That's about as adventurous as they will go. I'm feeling a little pressure, we talked about having a nice meal and my poor niece researched peacockalleyrestaurant and she was shot down due to price. We are open to a brunch on Sunday, 9/11. Just typing that date stops you in your tracks .... Thank you again.

Not big drinkers. Could range from nothing to 3 beers and a margarita.

Italian dishes are "Italian." Glad you specified because if you were in New York and asked for American Cuisine you'd likely get a steak or burger joint.![]()

Buy something to eat in your room for breakfast! Quicker and cheaper! Have pizza or burgers or Chinese like someone said for a less expensive nighti meal, and go to a "better" restaurant for lunch--which is usually less expensive.
How about a street hotdog? Anyone in the area have thoughts on that? LOL!! Sounds fun to me!

What you described will be the majority of our eating, lol. Fine by me!!

Another vote for John's Pizzeria!

If you walk around, you will find restaurants everywhere. Just be spontaneous; it is almost impossible not to find something you all enjoy in NYC. The prices are almost always in the window along with selections. If you walk over to Hell's Kitchen, there are many cute little eateries that are good and a little less crowded or if you are going early, walk the theater district and you will find something good. I worked in NYC for 28 years and go there once a week now and always manage to find a new place quite often. What one person finds appealing another may not. I think Carnegie Deli has universal appeal but is a little further uptown. Virgil's is fun and BBQ with a southern flair and there are numerous familiar steakhouses in the area that are always safe ....there are a number of Irish Pubs and Sports Bars in the area that are good as well but their names escape me. The Playright maybe? Is one

I haven't been to NYC since the early 90s, but if I flew there tomorrow, I'd get settled into my hotel first, then I'd jump into a cab and go directly to Carnegie Deli. If I could stay somewhere within walking distance of the deli, I'd skip the cab.
We walked all over the city, powered by Carnegie's blintzes and bagels. A Woody Allen isn't for everyone, but the menu is huge and the environment is unforgettable.
I know New Yorkers who say it's not their favorite deli in the city, but I fell in love with the place.
