@bonnielu  Your mechanic's info is definitely out of date regarding the oil changes.   Frequent oil changes were a problem several years back for a few years on the Forester but that problem has long-ago been fixed.   Subaru has very infrequent oil changes because of the type of oil they use now (special type).  So your mechanic is behind the times and sounds like his experience is with years-old models.

I was very impressed with how Subaru makes the 4WD since someone mentioned it. IMO it was the best of all the models I've seen in how it is constructed, operates, and kicks in when needed.   Very impressive.

We've had our Outback for 5 months now, 6500 miles on it and it just went in today for the first oil change.  We've been very satisfied with it and looking back over all the cars we've had since we got married, this one is probably our favorite.   It's got a great ride, very comfy seats and it holds the road better than anything we've had.   We're getting about 25 mpg around town which is what I think the number was on the sticker when we bought it.   Our last 2 cars were Priuses and the mileage on that little car was great but, I feel much safer in this one which is the main reason we purchased it....Subaru's have the best safety ratings you'll find on a car.

Personally I don't have a Subaru but my good friend plus her dtr. have one and they absolutely LOVE their 2015 Subarus.  Comfortable and safer than a lot of cars out there now.

If I needed a car now, I would probably buy the smaller SUV (can't recall if that's the Forester or Outback.)

We had a Subaru Outback for seventeen years and now have a Forester.

No complaints with the Outback, loved that car.

Hip and back problems caused a change in Subarus. The Forester is much easier to get in and out. Do not find it noisy. seats are excellent and love the heated feature.

It may be exspensive, but we have always used Subaru for maintenence.

Love my Subaru basic Impreza.  It drives the best of any car I've ever had.  I don't drive it much, so I don't worry too much abour 200,000 miles.

The ride is so smooth, the feel of being connected to the road is so helpful.  I will freely admit that my Subie, with no bells and whistles, is a little bit homely.  Even as cars go.  I am not a car person anyway.  But I have had mine for going on three years and oh, my!  It's reliable, steady, and so comfortable to drive.  I hope I have it twenty years, as I have had my prior cars, but even if I don't, I could not go back to a non Subie.

@Golden_Oldie Thank you for proving the point I made in my earlier post.  Your statement is a reason it is rated highly for seniors.

My 86 year old neighbor owns a flower shop and works 6 days a week. She always buys Outbacks - and then passes them on to her children and grandchildren. One is 20 years old and still on the road!

I had a Legacy many years ago - and gave it to my son. At 350,000 miles, it was still going strong, but the body rusted out.

After two Hyundai Santa Fes, I switched back to a 2016 Forester and I couldn't be happier. Gas mileage is super and it's still a peppy car.

We just bought 2 Subaru's...a Forester and a Legacy.

Both of our previous cars (not Subaru's) were trouble. (we cheated on Subaru for a awhile Smiley Embarassed)

We love both cars and wanted to have the option of an SUV type and a sedan. They both drive so well and are a pleasure.

The Forester has the eyesight feature along with all the other safety features that Subaru has been a head of in the industry without having to buy a luxury car. The Legacy has everything but the eyesight.

These will be our 5th and 6th Subaru's that we have purchased in our family.

We're looking at Outbacks, the 4 cylinder one.  Anyone hear have one and if so, how's your MPG?  Is it better or worse than you expected?  And do you find that the seats give you a lot of back support?  That's a big thing with me as I age.

Last August we bought our 6th Subaru.. Over the years we've had a legacy wagon, impresa & forester ( which we absolutely love ).. My daugther had the legacy sedan & then last year got the forester.. My brother-in-law also bought 2 Subaru & also his son bought a forester .. My neighbor & another 2 of my friends all bought Subaru bc of how we raved about them.. ( between, my daugther, nephew & brother-in-law & friends ) I should get a commission from Subaru,. All kidding aside, they are really great cars.. All the Subarus we owned,  we had no problems,  just routine maintenance & lots of times we skipped on them & the cars just kept on going.. My husband is rough on cars & boy does the forester hold up with him as a driver.. Also, Subarus hold their trade in value.. All I can say is that I looooooooooovvvvvvvveeeee my Subaru..

We had a 2011 Outback that we gave to our son in 2013. We then bought a 2013 Outback which was very similar to the old one. The salesman told us that we would notice a "peppier" engine and we did. It does take off much more quickly than the old one. But, I kind of like it.
