Re: Student killed

[ Edited ]

Like the student in Colorado, this young man was a rare hero.  The shooting itself was not a headline--just a midpage story.

We are getting callous about these shootings, so many of which seem to happen toward the close of the school year.  People seem to just turn their heads and not care.  ETA:  I don't mean the people on this thread--but the public at large.  Nothing changes, and it just goes on.

So sad, so very sad.  When will this stop?

I read that three of the others who were shot are in ICU in critical condition...pray they all recover quickly and completely. That anyone so young and full of promise could die like this is beyond sad...
They said this school is only 7 miles from Columbine.

I wonder how they were able to carry guns into the school... no metal detectors? No resource office on campus? In a school that is only 7 miles from Columbine?

@millieshops

I was so glad to see that the news networks backed WAYYY off on this school tragedy.

First, let me say that this poor young man's death is tragic and he deserves recognition. Absolutely no doubt about it.

But I think that many school shootings occur because the perpetrators see the news coverage and want the infamy. If America shows them that nobody wants to know who they are, maybe it will diminish the "appeal" of shooting people. I use this word for lack of a better one; I just think that someone sick enough to do this would find "appeal" in the attention.

I can only hope that this is a step in the right direction.

In the meantime, I feel deeply for the loss of this young man's life and for his family's loss and grief.

How many of our youth must die before we finally, finally, address the root problem of this national tragedy?

As we saw last week and this week, we are losing fine, brave souls to this calamity.

ALL life is worth protecting.

Yes, including the innocent unborn.
