I find it amusing when the guy is standing out in the wind and rain reporting live.....like go inside ....DUH!

I always thought that it was to help viewer better understand the actual conditions. I find it informative, rather than amusing...JMHO.

Apparently it's not the safest thing as some reporters have been blown into objects. One wag on FB said some wouldn't be satisfied until they saw a reporter sucked into a tornado - just to let everyone know the actual conditions of the storm you understand.

I hope the reporters have good health and life insurance.

I watched the coverage most of the night............then fell asleep and had nightmares about it. I feel terrible about all those people affected by this storm. I feel really guilty for complaining about the heat in PHX......

It's one of the reasons I didn't pursue a career in meteorological science.

My radio guys always laugh about that.
It's such a weather 'bit'. So predictable.
- Rain/hurricane - a reporter outside standing at an angle, just getting
pounded with the rain/wind.
- Snow - a reporter outside with a ruler in the snow
- Inside studio during severe weather - the meteorologist w/ his
jacket removed, sleeves rolled up, holding a fistful of papers.
Every.
Single.
Time.

I'm always worried that the news guy is going to go flying away in the middle of his report.

I have actually seen reporters tethered with a rope tied around their waist.
Yesterday my husband was watching the storm coverage and they were showing old clips from other storms. Geraldo Rivera was out in it reporting and got hit in the head with something the wind had picked up. It knocked him down.
