Getting cranky in my old age...I guess..
Went to the local drug store..They had a sale on something I wanted..2 for 5 dollars..I only could use 1..The price of the 2 for 5 dollars didn't apply for 1..The price if I only bought 1 was $3.29! I guess it's just another way of ripping people off...End of today's rant!

Target grocery items are priced that way, too...

Walgreen's does this. After I realized it, I opt to go elsewhere for what I need when possible.

I must be old because this isn't a new practice at least where I live. Stores have to sell certain volumes to get discounts on what they wholesale. So to offer that price to you, they need you to buy a couple.
I don't see a problem with it. Just don't buy two or don't buy there, or don't take advantage of the deal if it doesn't suit you.

Yeah, I run into this a lot. I often wind up buying just 1 at the higher price because I don't want 2. It isn't a huge issue. The difference is not worth getting worked up over IMO.

@Sooner I don't see the problem either, unless I can readily get it cheaper than that $3.29 price for one elsewhere. Then I do get it elsewhere.
If I didn't see the "sale" sign, aren't I paying the proper, competitive price at $3.29 for the one I want? So if I need it, that's the price. The "sale" only applies to shoppers who need/want two of them, and that's not me. I also never buy the two items just to think I got a deal for $5, which is ridiculous since now I'm paying more than what I wanted to spend for more than I need.
Sales marketing is a psychological game.

That's not new---you just have to read that teeny, tiny print---I would say prob at least half of people don't read it. Used to work in retail where sales ALWAYS had those "fine print" things--was always getting unhappy customers that would snark at me --as if I did it---and I would have to call the manager --he usual gave them what the sale was without the restrictions to appease them---hated retail !!! but I do read the fine print now!

Publix has a BOGO but will allow you to buy one for half that price. I love that.

If it's a product that I use often than I don't mond buying two, however sometimes it maybe something that you rarely use.

@Jo1313 I'm with you 100%. CVS is notorious for that now. And taboot...they send you a coupon, but coupons don't apply to any product that has another type promotion...which at least 50% of them seem to, with the "Buy One/Get one half off!) Yes, it, of course, is a sales tactic...you wind up buying twice what you would. I don't. I just skip those promotions, unless buying two really serves me, in a product I use regularly. Grocery stores, drug stores etc...do this more and more.
I really hate it in the grocery store, because I'm never sure if I only buy one that I'll have to pay full price or not. Used to be they'd say, in very fine print, on the tag, "price only applicable if you buy two" but that's never been a consistent thing, and often they just don't tell you. I WANT to KNOW what I am potentionally PAYING when shopping! Period, the end.
