I really loved Stephen when he was on The Colbert Report so I was looking forward to his new show. I have watched the past two nights but I'm not impressed. I can't put my finger on what it is but he doesn't seem as funny. I wonder if he still has the same writers? I'm hoping it gets better.
Has anyone else noticed a difference?

I just watched a bit here and there both nights. To me it seemed he was trying too hard and it was too hectic but I think in time he will settle into it.

On his old show he was playing a character and now he is not. I haven't seen it yet but that is probably the difference.

I think that most people are just used to Stephen's former exaggerated blowhard persona character.
Just give the authentic Stephen (who's also innately funny) - and the others - a while to settle in, etc.
8-)

I watched it about 10 minutes the first night he was on and he's just not my cup of tea. SC strikes me as someone who thinks they are the smartest person in the room. My husband thinks he's an a--hole.LOL

I agree with OP. He's not that funny or ground breaking. I don't care much about who the guest were because I usually don't know them anyway. Oh, I knew Jeb and Clooney but I mean in general, I'm not familiar with most show business names in this decade.

I thought CBS was taking a real chance there ...... the public knew him as that character, and now he has to be his real self, a person the public doesn't even know, and may not like. Sheesh.

Totally different skills needed as well as different writers.
I do think he needs to settle in to a bew routine and that could take a few weeks. Also, anyone expecting the character he played for all those Comedy Central years is bound to be disappointed.
I am hoping as he gets his footing, he will feel and act more comfortable in this new role. He's certainly talented enough and bright enough to make the transition; I hope we in the audience are, too.

I've never liked a new talk show host until they've been on a while. I think all of them need some time to adjust. I would never write someone off based on the first couple of shows or the first couple of weeks. I liked Stephen Colbert on his other show and I've enjoyed the interviews I've seen him do. I plan to give him a few months.
