Re: States that are opening up

@CrazyDaisy   Your comment about businesses' donating....I was just thinking of that yesterday, our business donates to just about every request..school, fund raisers for serious illness, raffles, etc.  When we are back up and running, there won't be to much of that until we are back on our feet.  I hate telling people no but they will just have to understand.

I had a person call today and said usually I order this sort of thing on line but they screwed up my order....so she decided to shop local...really, only because they made a mess of your order did she call our business....and of course she needs it ASAP!  Some things never change.

Well our Governor thinks that it is ok to let a dog get its hair cut and groomed, but not a woman.....More people here have died from the flu and pneumonia than from Corona yet we are prisoners.

@KayinMN   That is just not true anymore.

From October 2019 to early April 2020, the flu killed an estimated 24,000 to 62,000 people in the U.S., according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Those numbers are preliminary, and the CDC said it stopped updating its preliminary estimates for this flu season on April 4.

If 62,000 people died from the flu between October 1 and April 4, that means the US had an average of about 331 flu deaths a day.

By contrast, coronavirus killed more than 62,850 people in the US from the first known death in February through the end of April, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

So from February 6 through April 30, an average of more than 739 people died per day from coronavirus in the US.

With the flu, each person infects about 1.28 other people.  With the novel coronavirus, each person infects about 2-3 other people.

Coronavirus is so much worse than the flu.

I found it interesting that NY's governor recently stated that 66% of new coronavirus hospitalizations were people who were following lockdown rules.

Yep. They must have come into contact with someone who wasn't wearing a mask or following guidelines. It is highly contagious so it only takes one knucklehead to put you in the hospital.

I hope some of the hospitalized who were very careful about the rules can trace down the moment they were infected and find clear definitive proof of who gave it to them and then sue for damages. In most cases, probably not, but in a few I bet there would be clear causality and proof. I would think there also might be a DNA signature they could find. When enough careless people have to pay cold hard cash as a result of their careless health decisons, I think we'll see less of that funny business.

It does make you wonder how they got it.  I also wonder if they could trace it to who gave it to them.

I've stayed home the majority of the time and only ventured out to go to the store about once a week.  Then I've tried to keep my distance from others and actually felt good about how I've been handling this, but then a friend told me a story about a co-worker. . .seems his wife who works in home health tested positive, but they're continuing with their everyday routine going to stores and all over town.  He's mad because his employer told him to stay home since his wife was recently diagnosed, yet he won't get tested.  I wish more could be done to keep those who recently tested positive in quarantine.  I have no solutions. . .just think it's awful there are careless people like this guy's wife who know they have it and refuse to stay home.

None of the lockdown rules are 100% effective.  Unless you never have contact with anyone or anything, there will always be some risk.

@wildcat fan   Lockdown rules in my area of NY doesn't mean you can't leave your house and go out. When we go for car rides, everyone is out. Went through a small densely populated area in our county where the sidewalks are small and the stores close together. People were all over the place. Some with a mask and some not. No social distancing.

You are allowed to leave your house and go to any stores that are open which are many and that would still be following the lockdown rules. Common sense and social distancing must be used but we all know how that can go. I think when people hear states are on lockdown, they are misinterpreting what the lockdown rule means.

Re: States that are opening up

Regardless of when my state opens up, I'm not going out any more often than I do right now until I personally feel comfortable and safer.  That might be a week or might be a month or longer.

Up until this, I always took some comfort in knowing our government (at the federal level) would take steps to do whatever necessary to keep it's citizens safe; but I think those days are gone.  That reaction has been as shocking as the virus to me.

Re: States that are opening up

Georgia started to reopen the last week of April so we are about two weeks in.

Our cases have declined and my BIL is probably going back to elective surgeries and off of the Covid floor so we are so far so good.

Worth mentioning a lot of businesses chose not to reopen so we are still lighter than normal.  People did not stampede the malls over the weekend but they are not empty and neither is the downtown Atlanta area especially outside.

My State is still closed but this week many small business owners in my town decided the heck with this nonsense, opened their doors & are selling outside only...so far these hard working owners who always support our community haven't been hauled off to jail & it's great to see our community supporting them when they desperately need it.

It is great that the community is supporting them.  There was a public service commercial the other day.  Every time local schools or community sports teams need a fund raiser it is the small businesses that step up and help out.  Now it is the communities turn to support them.

Small businesses are the cornerstones of our communities & in my area they always step up to help...volunteer firefighters, police, schools, kids summer programs, sports, animal shelters, parks, sponser fundraisers for people who are sick, victims of violence & on & on...they are not nonessential, we need them & now they desperately need us. Sadly in my area For Lease signs are in the windows where small business used to be.

We are gradually opening up in Florida. Beaches are open but with restrictions for distancing. Education teams from Parks & Rec greet all beach goers. Law enforcement patrols the areas     So far so good. BUT- Tampa Bay is expecting a huge influx this weekend. We'll see how that goes. I'm waiting a while. In other sectors, restaurants are allowed to have dine-in at 25% capacity and many are expanding their outdoor seating to accommodate the distancing regulation

@smoochy  I’m east of Tampa and the numbers are still going up here. I’m not sure what they are doing in Tampa. Even with increasing cases, the parks and restaurants are opening up again. There is no reason to be doing it (same for most of the country) and I will be surprised if things don’t go from bad to worse within a month.

Re: States that are opening up

I live here in Ga. and our local mall in Augusta opened back up this week. Some stores opted to stay closed as did the food court. I watched it on my local news by the way. Some woman that was there said she thought it was too soon to open but yet there she was at the mall. They are handing out facemasks and wipes at the door if you wish to have one. Only so many people in stores and so on.

Some hair cut places opened up last week. Thru my husbands coworkers that decided to get theirs done they had to sit out in their car for at least 2 hours and they had appts.

My hairstylist is back open but I got mine done at the end of Feb. No hurry to go back since there was 11 mos between my last cut and this one.

I also had a doctors appt this past Monday. I figured it would be canclelled since it was just a yearly check up. I was surprised when I went in and no one in the waiting room were wearing masks. All the ladys behind the counter had masks on but most were under their chins. My dr and her assistant wore a mask but no gloves. She actually patted my leg on her way out which made me feel so much better.
