I am a believer in watching out for the rest of the population by heeding government advice.  None of us should use an ICU bed if we can avoid it.  Of course, some trips are essential.

A couple days ago I was going to take a flight in the fall.  Now I think we will drive.

Just because one division of the gov. can't get enuf testing kits out doesn't mean that the other specialists are wrong about rules for old people.

Who knows, by the time you're ready to go the risk may be down graded or all flights may be cancelled. At this point who knows what will be for sure. I think common sense goes a long way in this situation.

@blackhole99

I would not expect that to happen in the next three weeks

I would try to limit my risk and not travel.

Panic is not the response, rather a careful, thoughtful and informed decision process is required.

This situation is changing very quickly.

Not only do I have a flight in three weeks, I also have a cruise booked.

I cannot afford the time to be quarantined.

No vacation is worth risking your health or life.

I am trying to review all the cancellation rules as it is very likely I will NOT be traveling.

(And I already postponed my China trip for this summer)

60 is considered senior. She's 65 with health issues. I would not chance being stuck away from home & not knowing when I would be allowed to fly home!

This morning Dr Fauci was on one of the morning news shows and his recommendation is not to cruise, attend an event with large crowds or take a long trip if you are older and have an underlying condition (such as your autoimmune or asthma.)

The risk to any one individual of contracting the virus is still low however, if you are in this at-risk category you are at high risk for developing complications.

I would wait to take your trip at a later date. Airlines are waving some cancellation fees so I would check into your options. I would also consult with your autoimmune physician.

Yes, my prescriptions say side effects are different in people over 65. I have suddenly developed reactions to about 3 antibiotics. They made me really sick. One that I took about 10 years ago with no problem. As people age their liver, kidneys etc. don't work as fast as when we are younger. Also many people develop allergies later in life. If you have arthritis or joint problems certain medicine makes them worse.

If it were me i wouldn't have to think twice about canceling.  But think about this -- you decide to go and you're stressed the entire time worrying about what could happen.  Stress has an extremely powerful effect on the body and lowers the immune system making you even more susceptible to any bug.  I know the power of stress.

Wear a mask. Social distance. Be part of the solution - not part of the problem.
