Dh and I just spent a couple of days at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Now I can chevk this off my bucket list. I am inspired by my Joan Rivers "Do it Now"bracelet!

Did you see any ghosts or hear any strange sounds? Or was it on your bucket list for other reasons?

Hi Maureen5, I was actually serious with my question. I have heard so many stories about that place, I was curious about your stay. I think I would have a hard time sleeping there.Smile

That was the hotel in the Shining? Oh my!

My goal was to stay at all the Peninsula hotels. No longer have that desire, but I have stayed at 4 of them.

Wow! Those are amazing hotels - which 4 did you stay in? When I used to travel a little, I always had to stay at Motel 6 types and in NYC I stayed at the Barbizon Hotel For Women, comes complete with cockroaches and each floor had dorm-like bathrooms. But I met interesting women and learned how to eat dinner for free by going to several different bars happy hoursSmile

They even have a Ghost Package! Our family used to go to Estes Park every yr...and we stayed @ The Stanley. It's a beautiful hotel on its own...The Shining really made a marketing difference.

Now that would be fun! It would be great to be on the fourth floor. I hope they don't fake things in the hotel so that people think they have had a paranormal experience when they haven't.

I love that that they give you a K2 meter{#emotions_dlg.laugh} I'm not sure if it was the Stanley, but these ghost hunters went into a room that people had felt strange in and, by using a K2 meter, they discovered that the fan in the room was actually on though not turning and it was putting out pretty high EMF's. The low and high speeds on the fan worked, but the medium did not, but since it was not spinning (and it was winter so nobody was turning it on and off), everyone assumed it was off.

I enjoy it when they can debunk things like that.

How nice that you were able to stay at such a grand hotel - they don't build them like this anymore! When I lived in the SF Bay Area, I would always rent old apartments. They had size and elegance, the bathrooms were always huge, comparatively speaking, and usually they had some kind of quirk, like a Murphy bed wall or beautiful built-in cabinets to divide the kitchen from the dining area (and this was a studio!). The same is true of old hotels, there is usually something unique to that hotel.

I am the OP. No, we didn't have any scary experiences . That's ok with me. We did take the historical /ghost tour. We stayed on the second floor which was great. We went to the 4th floor which seemed creepy and not nearly as ornate as other floors. he hotel does not have air conditioning so the 4th floor is warm .The movie The Shining was not filmed at The Stanley, but Stephen King stayed there and was inspired to write The Shining It was a grand hotel and I am so glad we stayed there. I was inspired by Joan's bracelet DoIt Now bracelet, which I wear everyday. Thank you Joan
