If he's looking at the 1 piece unit, both the washer and the dryer are very small.

One of the "musts" when looking for a condo last year was that it have a washer/dryer. We have a GE, electric, top load. The previous poster said stackables were small. Mine is a full size, actually bigger than I need. Got it at Home Depot for about $1200. Worth every penny.

My brother & sis-in-law have a small 1-piece unit in which the washer & dryer cannot be separated. They are really limited to the load size they can do compared to their previous full size machines.
The benefit of the smaller 1-piece units is that they can fit in spaces that might not accommodate a full size stacked unit. A small, in-home unit is better than having to go to a public laundromat.

I bought a Frigidaire stackable front loading washer and dryer years ago. I think I initially purchased at Lowes, but had to replace the washer a few years ago and got that at Best Buy. I do not know if they still make the stackables, but they have worked great.

My house came with a used 24-inch Whirlpool Thin-Twin. Thought I would love it. It's way too small, even for just me, I end up needing 2 loads for my full-size sheets. And I don't like the limited options. All the dryer selections have a cool-down cycle. Sometimes I like clothes very warm from the dryer. Issues with the washer cycles, too, but I don't remember. At least it uses enough water, tho it fills from the bottom, oddly. Strange piece of machinery.
And I miss being able to fold clothes on the top of the washer and dryer. Especially towels. Fortunately, I can only do a few at a time. Once my son gets the replumbing done, we will turn a side porch back into the laundry room for which it was intended, and the current laundry room will be a walk-in pantry. The Whirlpool will go away. Can't wait!

My neighbor loves hers. She installed a rod and uses the extra space for hanging her clothes as they come out of the dryer.

I did the same thing as @ItsME. The originial unit we replaced was a one piece unit and I found the washer and dryer to be small.

@riley1 I actually had a side-by-side arrangement. The dryer kept blowing a fuse, and when it blew for a third time, just a month after replacing it for the second time, I scrapped both units in favor of my stackables. It was the right decision, as it freed up some space in the laundry room, without sacrificing space in the appliances. I agree that most of the combo units are just too small.

I have gone thru so many washers and dryers in the past several years.
DO NOT purchase any Samsung or LG products. There are few and far between people who service them. I found that out 1st hand. Had a Samsung dryer, lasted less than 1 year, people came out and serviced it, the more they worked on it, the more it broke. Got rid of that dryer. Purchased a LG dryer, that last less than 15 months. tried to find anyone to fix that LG dryer was impossible. I had a service contract thru the place I purchased the dryer (same as Samsung) I had to contact the manufacturer people directly to fix the machine. There only 1 company to fix the LG in my area, they were very unreliable . We have an LG fridge and it took them 3 months to get 1 gasket for my fridge and fix the fridge. The company was a mom-pop place. I would never use them again. My husband and I would call daily trying to get help to fix that LG fridge and got no where, call LG back again and all they would tell me, the fix it place would fix it when they get around to it. LG was of no help at all.
DH and I just threw the dryer to the curb and purchased a Maytag dryer. We know it can be repaired if need be. This all happened in the last 2 weeks.
Never will I recommend and LG or Samsung product ever.
Washers Speed Queen all the way. They are a work horse.

Sorry to hear you have had such issues with LG. I have a couple of their products and have never had any problems.
