I have two questions, I hope someone can answer them. I have been with Spectrum for a little over 18 years, I have never switched to another cable provider. Spectrum and I will be parting ways, I'll be going to Verizon Fios. What I want to know, do I wait to cancel Spectrum's services until after Verizon installs their equipment? I have to ship the equipment back to Spectrum. Also do I get to keep my same address and password with my new router from Verizon?

Has a customer service representative from Verizon Fios offered to address the concerns you have posted here?

@Jordan2.  Go to the electronics forum and look up  "Cutting the Cord" in the archives and I think youll get some good hints on saving on your cable, or rather without it.

I actually haven’t asked them about my concerns. I did speak to someone on the phone about their plans, the deals Verizon offers are better online than the ones they offer on the phone. I looked it up, the proper thing to do is get your services up and running, then cancel your services from your old provider.

If you want uninterrupted service, cancel Spectrum after getting connected with Verizon.

Your router info will be different. If you have an email address with Spectrum, you will lose the email so forward any emails you have there to another email address.

@willdob3 @believe it or not I have an AOL email address and a gmail. Question, do I have to set up my printer to recognize the new router and my devices ( I am so not a techie)?

Witb AOL & Gmail you will be fine. Spectrum doesn’t control those.

Yes, you will need to connect your printer and other devices to the router. The person who sets up the Verizon router may be able to help you connect all of your devices.

I don't see that you save enough to spend the time and aggrevation to cut the cord.  It would drive me nuts what the other things we have to deal with these days.

When I get a new router I reset the network name and password on the new router to the old network name and password. That way I don't have to reconnect every device. As far as the devices are concerned nothing's changed. It's easier to alter the router than everything else.

Hi @gardenman, do you think if I ask the technician he would set it up the way I want? I don't know if I could do it myself.

He/she should. It's typically very easy to do. Once the new router is connected to your computer you simply open a web browser and enter the IP address of the router and you can change everything. Both Comcast and Verizon have apps that let you change the network name and password through the app. It's pretty easy stuff.
