@shoekitty wrote:The reason for more calls is this past Feb they threw out the internet privacy act , that was enacted in 2011. Now your internet providor can and does gather your internet browsing and can sell the places you go to to marketing companies. Which it has in record numbers. The info has your internet address and, age group, internet browsing and shopping habits. Before the internet companies like google, verizon, att&t, etc. were not allowed to sell your info, it was private. Now, no more.
That makes sense to me. We were looking to buy a summer home that needed a new roof. I was looking for roofing companies on line located in that area to get an estimate on the cost before I made an offer.
It wasn’t long after that I started to receive calls from roofers. They called my home phone, but I explained that I didn’t need a new roof. Mine is only a year old.
I also looked up insurance info fit my son and I received several calls from insurance companies and e-mail too.
the mystery has been solved. I’ll be sure to delete cookies and block them too.

Register with Catalog Choice to get rid of catalogs. It definitely helps.

We have the same situation 99% of the calls that we net in our phone land line are Medicare related. I am considering just keeping of mobile phones and eliminate the other one.🌻

The Do Not Call Registry is a joke. It worked really well when it first went into effect, now not so much.
We use Nomorobo. As long as it continues to work as well as it does, I refuse to spend $ on a call blocker phone or piece of equipment.

ALready posted about the Medicare calls but my issue is that in May I was assigned a number for a family who I believe is running from creditors. I need a landline for 16 more months bc it's required for this security company for the alarm system. I don't answer the calls but a month ago I began getting VM messages from the local HS about their daughter. I verified it was the HS so I called and told them that their calls are not reaching the family and to please remove number from her file.
I come home to 2 more messages and called back and tell them that I used to work in a school - if the girl is there they need to call her down and get updated info. Years ago when I worked in a HS, this was a game - those being tracked by creditors used to get a landline configured for outgoing calls only and on one or two times it got dicey when a parent couldn't get reached bc their child was sick and needed medical attention. Could never understand why someone would put their child in danger like that. But on a brighter note in my situaton at least the school has stopped calling!

i have a phone system with call block features. I can usually tell by the number whether to block or not. But more and more Doctors offices and such have toll free numbers or weird numbers.
I received the most maddening call yesterday, and they got me! The caller ID said, Kaiser Permanente, so I answered and immediatley a sales call began. Hi, we have been trying to get hold of you!! Then she went on, I tried to interupt, but I think it was a robo call. I hung up in the midst of the second sentence. That is criminal do use Kaiser!!! My daughters use kaiser, so of course I answered. Fool

@shoekitty I share your frustration. So many scammers are using spoofed numbers and/or names of real organizations that it's difficult to trust any calls. We began receiving bogus calls from various organizations including our local PBS station. We've gotten to the point where we never answer and wait for a message. However, it becomes a problem when you're waiting for an important call, like a doctor, because you can't just call them back.

Oh yes indeedy! I have had ALL of the mentioned offenders call and is increasing as well. What really got me battle ready was a legitimate call (verified) I received last month and it went like this:
Phone solicitor lady: Hi Im from Breast Cancer Foundation and which contribution can I count on....the high one or the lowest one?
Stormy: I would like to give something small as I live on disability so what is the low one?
Solitication lady (a bit put off) Well, we expect you will give the high one of ONLY $150.00 but if you must you can give the small one of $75.00. (REALLY?)
Stormy: Lady I was thinking more like $10.00 but if that is offending you I will just hang up now. Be grateful I even offered to donate as I am very ill.
Solitication Lady: Hmmmpfff well WHAT CREDIT Card will you be using today?
Stormy: Umm I do not give out my cc to anyone over the phone so please send an envelope.
Anyway she shouted at me then that "These women need your help TODAY not tommorrow". (I swear this happened) I got equally indignant and shouted at her that "I have a rare illness and NO organization has ever helped me yesterday, last year or the last 20 years. How ungrateful are you people today? Anyway received the envelope and already have 2 calls hounding me to keep my pledge. If I receive one more call am thinking of tearing up the whole thing. Is a shame really the agressive tactics that make people not even want to help anymore. I hope thatlady chokes on her corn flakes LOLOL.
Yea I agree is a gimme gimme world and they do not care that you gave all of your life and have very little now. No more.
