None of the above. Both of my phones have a built in 'Do Not Disturb' feature. It allows me to select the option of only letting through phone calls from people/numbers in my Contacts. So I'm not getting any nuisance calls. (Most smartphones have this feature built in.)
When I still had a landline I use that for outgoing calls only.I could just leave the ringer off, since any incoming calls were from people who were just going through the phone book or voter registration records or homeowner listings and making telemarketing calls.
@Stormygirl,
What a story!!
With today's technology it's amazing to me people still answer a call without some indication it's someone they DO want to talk to. Yep, you can be spoofed into picking up, but you weren't.
The fact is A. You answered, B. the caller was able to keep you on the phone and engage you in a conversation, wherin you supplied infirmation to a complete stranger about your long term state of health and finances, and C.get a pledge of money from you!
You neatly jumped through all three hoops, making your phone number far, FAR more valuable in the future. Your number will be sold over and over and over.
If you want to donate to an organization, call them and donate, or contact them thru email or snail mail.
But geez, if you are irrisistably compelled to answer calls from unknown callers, be aware that your number and ALL the info known about you is up for sale to legitimate businesses AND scam artists around the world!
My sister is caught in the same time warp, answering calls and holding conversations with wrong numbers, telemarketers, pollsters, etc.
