Re: Something You Got Rid Of...

Maybe he found the candle getting smaller each year rather depressing, @I am still oxox.  I think I would.

@Mersha

I would love to have my horse collection back.  When dad was overseas, he would send me a new one each payday...I don't know if the Army got paid once a month or every week.  I also got some here in the states.  Probably 25 to 30 total.  I'm really not one to hold on to "things" but I do wish I still had those.

I read your post to mean you burned it every year on your birthday, @I am still oxox.

ETA I reread and see you said from from one to 21.  Sorry.

We lost our two dogs in 2023 within 51 days of each other.  One was expected; one was not.  I thought I would die from the grief.  I swore I never wanted to volunteer for that kind of pain again, so we donated thousands of dollars worth of dog stuff.  And if you have dogs, you know what I mean!  Multiple beds, food, ramps, dog bowls, medication, clothing, blankets, supplements, washable pee pads, toys, furniture covers, etc.

Well, guess what?  Almost two years later, and my husband and I have started talking about possibly adding another pup to our family.  But then we think about how much stuff we'd have to buy to start from scratch all over again plus think about the expense of everything including vet care, how tied down we were, etc., and we talk ourselves out of it.  BUT...if we still had all the dog stuff, I know what would be coming sooner rather than later.  lol

Sometimes, the hurt of losing those we love lasts a lifetime.

You sound like such wonderful, caring parents! How fortunate another dog would be to end up in your devoted home. If it would work for you, I hope you are able to save another life. God bless.

@I am still oxox  I get that.  The candle was "with you" for all of those birthdays and had great sentimental value.

I would be upset if someone threw it out also.

But hopefully you didn't mean it when you said you haven't forgiven him...right?

A couple of gold necklaces that I sold:  They were herringbones, which I thought were out of style, but had pretty etchings (one floral, the other Greek key).

Re: Something You Got Rid Of...

1.  A pair of converse tennis shoes that were my daughters.  She left them in her closet years ago and I cleaned the closet out.

2.  A gold herringbone necklace that I paid $80.00 in the early 2000's.  Sold it because it had a bad kink in it.  A couple of years ago bought another one to replace it to the tune of $600.00.  Yikes!
