So far all the early consensus about this virus have been way, way off. The number of expected cases/deaths and almost every other statistic. Remember when 250,000 were expected to die/several millions would need to be in ICU. I could quote more just not necessary.

Why were "they" so far off? I am pretty sure I know but don't want this thread to go poof! I can get that post virus is going to be much different and I will adjust. For anyone, expert or not, to say anything about 2 years down the road? I ain't buying it and will see it as a "maybe" educated guess.

I am always happy to see each tomorrow and I live 1 day at a time. In my life I have known many that prepared so well for their future, their lives ended before they had much of that future, some of them none! They never lived their "present" life, and to me that's sad.

@hckynut, the model with those 250,000 deaths was a model based on the assumption that no public health actions were taken.  No closing schools, no shutting down certain businesses, etc.

That is the type of model you see in the movie Outbreak, etc.  If nothing is done to stop the spread, this is how the computer models predict it will spread and the impact it will have on the population.

So thank goodness we didn't have to deal with those numbers.  We grossly missed the boat on containment and had to move quickly to mitigation.  And thankfully, mitigation efforts have had an impact.  Thank goodness!

Exactly. The opening post was about the possible continuation of social distancing, not a stay-at-home mandate.

I don't see anything very onerous about social distincing. But staying at home until 2022 is not going to happen. Worst-cased scenario would be that we have a one or more setbacks that would necessitate staying in until it passes.

I don't like people in my space, I don't want hugs and hand shakes from acquaintances much less strangers. So for me, social distancing is welcome, except for the masks; I can do without those.

I like that businesses are cleaning their spaces, that there is a shield between me and the cashier, and more stores offer disinfectant wipes at their entrances.

It will be grand if in future people are forced to stay at home when they're sick instead of infecting those who are unfortunate to come in contact with them.

Parents will no longer be permitted to leave their children to wonder stores touching everything and playing with produce.

There is never a negative without a positive to be included somewhere.

@occasionalrain  I completely agree. I am one of the more vigilant people I know about keeping my distance, wiping down carts, using hand sanitizer and so on and STILL, I have manged to come down with my share of crud because others have not been cognizant (or considerate) when it came to these things. I sincerely hope everyone will now be more mindful of them, of staying home when one is under the weather and of the fact that it really isn't just about them... I have my doubts, but hope springs eternal...

Yes, hopefully people will be more cognizant about common sense "hygiene practices" and staying home when sick!  Gee, maybe I wont even see a mother in a Target restroom bathing her infant with a poopy diaper in a sink that everyone uses to wash their hands.....yep, that would be nice.....(true story before all this virus stuff started).....Woman Frustrated

Oh my yes @Spurt, people are charmers, aren't they? Even a few on these very boards, I'd say, but I digress. I'm recalling the time I stopped in at a local fast food restaurant (Roy Rogers, which is a cut above the usual...) and had just about had my fill of seeing parents think anything should go where their little darlings are concerned... It's long really bothered me to see what are usually low life parents sitting their babies butts on the counter while they order and pay for their food... I don't want some baby's backside sitting on a counter that food passes over... I nicely suggested perhaps she could remove her child from the counter and, as you might expect, she went ballistic... The manager later acknowledged I was correct and yet felt it was a Catch 22, realizing the reaction he'd have gotten by saying something was exactly the reaction I got... It's one of those over-used expressions, I know, but it really is true that you can't fix stupid... I realize food is wrapped and served either on a tray or in a bag, but I still don't think a food service counter is the place for a diaper clad baby's rump...

I'm glad you spoke up, some people need a wake up call...but people are so afraid to offend someone, and workers are afraid they will get reprimanded or fired....But sadly thats quite a common practice at food courts at malls and shopping centers too, not just the counters---its on the tables where people put their food too, that are "cleaned" with a DIRTY cloth SMH!!!.....  as my great aunt used to say...."were these people raised in a barn?"

Forget the corona virus its amazing people havent gotten sick in droves just from unsanitary conditions....I think the reports of "food poisoning" are inaccurate and has more to do with hygiene of the food places themselves.....

Re: Social Distancing until 2022

I spend my life dancing... square dancing and ballroom dancing.  We dance almost every night somewhere.  That has all changed.  It is good exercise physical and mental.  So many friends and places to be.  I  would be devastated if I even believed this... so I am going to just hope and pray that it all gets fixed soon.

And we have only the companies' assurances that they are doing cleaning now. I don't believe it. Cleaning is pure cost to a company. They say they do it after hour, so you won't expect to see them.

If everything's being cleaned so constantly, why do stores still look grubby? To me, they do.
