Wrong.

Rationalization to excuse irresponsible behavior and another example of entitlement.

Boy, it's great to see all this tolerance so many of you demand for every other thing that people are or do in society today, but can't tolerate 'these' people.

Many here aren't saying the habit or act is disgusting, but the people are. How sad that some people expect others to tolerate their 'rights' choices, decisions, but can't offer that back to others.

Typical.

Funny everyone thinks making marijiana legal is ok though so I guess smoking pot is certainly socially acceptable-

People who use marijuana, including medical marijuana, couldn't actually care less whether anyone does or doesn't find them socially acceptable. They could be your doctor, your attorney, or the sweet lady who runs your local bakery. Or one day, perhaps a family member in horrible pain from cancer or with MS.

"Smoking pot" and the visuals that go with it is such an outdated way to look at cannabis use.

@MoonchildeI don't know-I'm kind of partial to the Cheech and Chong look myself.

Throwing something out your window so you damage public property instead of your own private property is actually the greater of two evils.

Exactly @WenGirl42!

Added to ugliness of litter.

All the fires started by careless ciggy butt tossing..........costly and dangerous.

In honor of Terrie Hall, who would have been 57 today (!), July 19,

I feel her message needs to be told again & again & again.

Terrie Hall, from North Carolina, was the face of the Anti-Smoking

PSA campaigns.  It was disturbing, but powerful, to see her

decline as the ravages of smoking took her life.

Such a courageous y.o.u.n.g woman.

If just one person stops smoking from viewing her message,

it was worth the effort.

One can place junk food bags on the floor and dispose of them later. Cigarettes are burning with no place in a car to extinguish them. Putting one on the floor in a car would hardly be prudent.

While manufactures no longer put ashtrays in cars you can purhase them.  They fit into the cup holders in every car.  The point is that ALL smokers do not throw butts out the window, just as not ALL people who have fast food bags or cups throw them out the window.  The sweeping generalizations being made are very disturbing.  Placing all smokers together is the same as saying all (fill in the blank) are the same.

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.

Oh boy.  You might want to visit another board. This board is for opinions.  You might not like them or agree with them but that's what this is for.

For the record, my father died of cirrohsis of the liver from drinking.

And both of my parents died from diseases brought on by their cigarette smoking.

@QueenDanceALot

Wow. Both parents.  That's a lot for a kid to take in.

So sorry to hear...you have my condolences.

💛

Thanks.  A lot of kids had it and have it a lot worse.

It was a long time ago.  Very stressful, and it took some time for me to quit my smoking habit, but I did and never looked back.

Do those who use MJ face the same litany of adverse health consequences? I'm not aware that they do. They may face some, but I don't think it's up there with cigarettes.

I do hope that when legalized, there are the same constraints on use as there are now for cigs.

Smokers?  Okay.  I read every day over and over and television coverage from on to off about opiod addiction completely taking over the country.  Opiod addiction?  Why in the world would anyone start taking these drugs knowing the consequences?  Trillions of dollars, highest cost of anything medically related at this point, needles everywhere.  Think about that.  Then worry about someone smoking in their own yard.

I am always extremely careful about my trash, be it wrappers, cigarette butts, etc. and never leave anything behind on any beach or throw anything from my car windows or on someone else's property.  I'm sure the rest of you do the same.

Pastime/hobby, all the same thing.

I wouldn't call smoking a pastime either nor a hobby.

A habit yes.  A hobby no.
