I just find this attitude so sad.  Alcoholics are addicted.  The ads for alcohol are everywhere.  It's hard to go into a restaurant without seeing a fully stocked bar.  We don't know how to help addicts.  People need help, not scorn.

Tansy, my point is that it is now quite fashionable to denigrate smokers.  It is a legal product, but smokers have been run out and restricted by the same people who drink and smoke marijuana, who somehow think that their sh** don't stink..  Its "that"very hypocritical, holier than thou attitude by others that I find sad.  Tobacco, regardless of its health risks, is the original cash crop that was integral to the founding of this country. It is legal, and smokers are no worse people than drinkers or prescription addicts.  But its OK to comment on how rude "they" are.

Also a ridiculous reason to stand up for smoking.

Just a statement of fact, not a ridiculous reason to stand up for smoking - but people do have that right to the use of a legal product if they want to.

our condo complex at the beach requires you to smoke only in your individual units, however, with the system they have OR if people leave their balcony doors open, it is easy to smell the smoke......of all types.

Absolutely.  They don't have leprosy just a "hobby" like others who drink, etc. do.

Have you ever seen a person bleed out from sclerosis of the liver from drinking? I have. whoa I'm sure that would really disgust you. Please. list us your bad habits? Stamp collecting is a hobby.  Model building is a hobby.  Kite flying is a hobby. Smoking is not a hobby.  It is an activitiy that endangers the health and lives of both the smoker and those in their environment.

And both of my parents died from diseases brought on by their cigarette smoking.

We can have facts AND opinions on this board.  Cigarettes kill people.  That's a fact.

@GrailSeekerAnd caused a boom in increased slave labor.

We know about tobacco as the cash crop; but we have since learned the health effects of smoking/chewing tobacco.  One doesn't justify the harmful effects it has caused TODAY and especially the lies/deception/ of the tobacco industry.

Thanks, Mr. Rolf.

"I come on here for knowledge, not opinion."

WHY? This is a discussion forum. Discussions are give-and-take, back and forth of opinions. That's why discussion forums are created. There are opinions in the cosmetics, jewelry and fashion forums as well - very heated ones.

You cannot dictate that everyone you encounter here must see things exactly as you do in all ways. Not going to happen. Get used to it.

Your ignorance shows in believing that all overweight people simply must be overeating, there couldn't possibly be any other reason for their weight. Just not true and never has been.

Nor is every drinker, even a heavy drinker, automatically public falling-down drunks who get behind the wheel drunk every day.

You're entirely missing the point that this thread is largely about rude and inconsiderate smokers, not all smokers.

Thank you.

Pastime/hobby, all the same thing.
