This afternoon our local football team won a playoff game. It was out of town , and when they arrived here they had a police escort and a fire truck , horns blasting and the cars of the folks that attended formed a small welcome parade. Those kids had a great season and I love these small town traditions. ๐Ÿˆ

Me too!

Two of my daughters live in small towns.  I love some of the traditions they have.

@QVCkitty1  I am so happy for your town.   Congratulations to all.  I love small towns and when I read your post it made me so happy and I felt like I was there and I love how the town had a parade.

I live in a small town and sports and other 'hometown' events are a big deal as well, the sport events are well attended and if there is a big win...state, etc, there is a parde welcoming them home.

Friday after Christmas is a huge parade with Santa and a tree lighting in the town square.   We have a beautiul courthouse in the center of town.

Same thing happens in our town. Just last week the Girls X Country won states. Police cars, fire trucks, school bus and parents and fans bringing up the rear. We run outside to clap and cheer when we hear the sirens coming down the street. Love our small town!

I've lived in the suburbs of Detroit my whole life. We moved and retired on a lovely lake in the upper, lower peninsula of Michigan in a very small, rural town. LOVE! Everyone knows you. Everyone wonders how you are if they don't see you for awhile. Small town traditions are so endearing. Heart

Have never lived in a small town, but think I'd like it. Most of my life has been lived in or near a big city and I don't like it. I did enjoy my college and grad school years in a smaller city, but wouldn't call it a town. I contemplate moving often and perhaps one day I'll actually do it.

I was raised in a small town in Indiana.

Think John Mellencamp...

Even though football was big, basketball was HUGE.

Basketball wasn't a sport, it was a religion.

Most of my classmates went to Indiana University and we are a close knit group to this day.

@stevieb  If remembering correctly you're Pacific NW?

Being a SF native wasn't easy to leave for Denver 25 years ago but within a week it felt like home here in Denver. So glad we did it, would never go back.

Of course SF isn't the same as it was then and has declined tremendously. If that has happened in your area it's refreshing to leave that behind.
