Re: Should We Go to Boston with the Hurricane Coming?

What a sad situation. The poor couple must feel so frustrated. I personally would not want to take the risk of going where such dangerous weather is expected. The friend has to understand that.

This headline made me start singing "Please Come to Boston".  Now I can't get it out of my head! Woman LOL

Re: Should We Go to Boston with the Hurricane Coming?

I would stay put.....I am in a bulls-eye region as of two hours ago. There is no guarantee that the caterer will be able to serve food. If the power goes out you are in trouble. People will understand. LIfe and Weather happen.

Years ago DH and I were to go to his cousin's wedding when a hurricane hit. The venue was on the water and the road and restaurant flooded. The wedding was sceduled for Friday with a reschedule of Saturday that couldn't happen. A re-reschedule was slated for six months later and an ice storm hit ! I couldn't get there, maybe fifty people out of 200 plus made it to the church. It happens

I can not believe that any poster would even suggest that @beach-mom and her DD drive to this event. No one with an ounce of common sense would suggest such a thing.

The risk in driving to Boston, which isn't even getting a direct hit, is minor.

If everyone avoided risk then we wouldn't have police, firefighters, road crews, construction workers, nurses, doctors, EMT's, truck drivers, soldiers, lifeguards...

@occasionalrain We would have them, they just wouldn't be using the jaws of life to extracate people whose car was hit by a DUI; getting people out of wrecks where truck drivers fell asleep; no funerals for road crews where someone was killed by someone texting; people who died because they just HAD to climb that mountain in the winter or just HAD to hike alone and with little thought to where they were going, and on and on.

What about how selfish it is to take risks just because you want to that maybe someone else has to risk their own life to drag your butt out of the flood water when you shouldn't have been there in the first place?

Then driving to Boston, or even to the grocery store, on any day is a risk.

Perhaps the OP's daughter shouldn't have committed to be in her friend's wedding, and those for whom commitments are unimportant, shouldn't make or expect them from others.

@occasionalrain Sure if you want to go there. However who would have thought a hurricane and warnings would be inthe offing when the commitment was made?

Who on earth would expect someone go out in weather warnings like this to go to a wedding?  It's just a wedding.  Makes no sense at all to discuss a commitment in light of that.

We need first responders because idiots take risks when they shouldn't. We are told this time and time again to stay home during terrible weather because not only are you risking your life but first responders lives also. Everyone knows this.

@RetRN I agree but this is so typical of the poster who is lambasting the OP about her decision not to go. No surprise from that poster, it's typical.

A little bit of plain common sense should go a long way when it comes to dangerous weather events.

As someone noted, you endanger yourself and others by being foolhardy.

And for what?  A display of good manners.

Well, you would think that everyone would know that, but obviously not.

Otherwise, the rescuers wouldn't have to rescue those . . . . . . who defy orders to stay off of the roads.
