I'm still mystified about cover letters. Do recruiters read them or not?

@JBKO,It's still considered professional to introduce yourself through a cover letter.  It's up to the company to read them.

@ECBG, yes indeed.

Re: Should Resumes include a Mailing Address?

at the high school my children went to they did go through a mock interview process with all graduating seniors. they had to create a resume, but no cover letter. on the resume was name, address, email,  phone number, work experience, etc...... since then they use the same format when they have used their same resumes, but of course have updated them. it was stressed to them to keep it at one page and to be concise and accurate.

many times they are applying online and the resume is required and needs to be uploaded as part of the application.

Not always @SydneyH.  Believe it or not, some companies don't have those online application systems, especially if they are smaller companies.

While that may be true, an email address and phone would be sufficient information to contact a prospective employee.  Headhunters are counselling people to remove addresses because it could give away your age.
