ITA!   She's almost beyond amazing.  I really wanted her to win...and really wanted to have America represent...and strong women of color.  She's the total package.   ?  Next....Olympics

I kind of wonder if she won't retire after the Olympics.

Serena has some serious muscle going on.  I rooted for Venus but I didn't think she would beat her sister.  The real surprise is the Vinci win.  Maybe the match with Venus took too much out of her.  Sorry, I missed the Vinci vs. Serena match.  Hope to catch it on a rebroadcast.

It was a great match....try to find it to watch.
I really thought Serena would win it but as I was watching, I was glad Vinci was giving her a run for her money but I didn't think Serena would lose.

Congrats to Vinci and I look forward to the Final tomorrow between 2 Italians....one NOT seeded and the other #26.....who would have thought that would happen!!

Serena does have an amazing career in tennis and all her other accomplishments but losing this, I'm sure, hurts a lot.  Great match today!!

It says a lot about someone who can't acknowledge greatness and the accomplishments of others.

ITA.  Assuming most of us are female posters, we should be celebrating the American Female Professional Athlete...no matter what the status.  Other than Venus, Danika Patrick and maybe Ronda Rousey....the pool gets pretty shallow after Serena.

It's amazing to think a female athlete has garnered this much attention.  A female American athlete.  A female Africian American athlete.   And not only do it well, but the best in the history of the sport.  Did she win this time?  No, but it doesn't discount her body of work.

Here in America, women's sports will always be waaaaay down on the list of importance.   It just feels good to be acknowledged on a worldwide stage, that's all.  I would think we would all understand and appreciate that by now.   Maybe stepping away from TMZ and InTouch magazine will give one a true sports perspective.   Like it or not, we are witnessing history.

No doubt she is a great player, a powerhouse and a great athlete. She can also be pretty nasty and classless and that has been documented many times. I am all for supporting other women and cheering them on but not while ignoring loathsome behavior.

Re: Serena v Venus @ the Open

I thought Serena handled her loss very badly but not surprised from someone who shouts the f word during matches.  She is very self centered and does not consider the feelings of other people.  She should have accepted her loss gracefully at the press conference.  Instead she acted like a jerk not answering the questions.  Not to mention leaving the premises within a half an hour.

I am very happy for the Italian ladies.  It just goes to show you that brute force doesn't always win tennis matches.  Skill is much more important.

I love tennis and this has been a great US Open.

EXCELLENT POST! You are 100% accurate. Her behavior on a NUMBER of occasions has been classless, rude, arrogant, and threatening.
