I also thought as you did: What if my loved one were the victim instead? I'd use every resource available to me to go after any and all responsible, criminally and civilly.
Another problem that has never been explained is, where and how did this live ammunition appear on the set -
Strange.

That detail may come out at trial? Guess we shall see.
I talked to my dad tonight about the verdict and where he thinks Baldwin stands. He thinks he will get some sort of punishment, despite the armourer's conviction. Mainly because he ultimately caused Mrs. Hutchins' demise by actually firing the weapon. Due to his celebrity status, I think he'll walk.
It did occur to me, too, that Stephen Baldwin (Alec's brother) starred in that gun show where he was with the Pony Express, Young Riders. It's in syndication. Numerous "shots" were fired on that show by multiple actors over the course of a few years. I've never heard of one person killed or injured on that show.

@beckyb1012 - So on a movie set, say you're filming the "Gunfight at the OK Corral" - the actors facing off are supposed to point their prop guns where?
At the sky? At the ground? It's a movie set; fiction; make-believe. Live rounds have no business being there and the one responsible for bringing them onto the set, in this case, was Gutierrez-Reed. No one else. She didn't seem to take the job very seriously; unfortunate when peoples' lives were at stake.
I said at anyone and always assume it is ready to fire.

I wonder if Baldwin was aware that target practice had been going on, of course using real bullets. I wonder if he participated in that.
Seems there had been much trouble, stress and even workers walking out on production because it was an unsafe set, and the woman who was killed was upset for them.
Supposedly, texts were sent to the producers about previous mis-firings, including with Baldwin's stunt double at least twice. Production team never addressed these concerns.
I honestly don't know who's the most responsible, the director, the producers, the actors, or all of them.

All the concern, conviently, comes after the incident.
If the assistant had been concerned, he would have checked the gun prior to handing it to Baldwin. Had the cinematographer been concerned, she would have checked it or, at least, not have told Baldwin to point it at her.

@mrshckynut Looking to be sure of what? Blanks are virtually indistinguishable from live rounds.
@Love to Run shown in training classes several times that blanks do not have a projectile in the end of the casing in a revolver that can easily be seen
mrshckynut
@mrshckynut An actor on a movie set presumably hasn't had weapons training. I'll defer to the expert.

Unbelievably, (well not really), there are several posts blaming the victim.
Cinematographers are not charged with prop compliance.
Different unions. Different job responsibilities.

@occasionalrain...Alec Baldwin was also a Producer on the movie set so it comes down to what his responsibilities were as both an Actor and Producer of which there are varying opinions...It has been reported, by others working on the set, that he was aware of safety violations, misfires, etc. and he ignored them...Many walked off of the set due to safety concerns, etc.
From The Guardian...January 2024...
"Prosecutors brought the case before the grand jury in Santa Fe earlier this month, alleging that Baldwin caused Hutchins’s death either by negligence or “total disregard or indifference” for safety. The grand jury opted to indict.
The prosecution’s case centers on his role as an actor holding the weapon as well as his role as a co-producer with legal responsibility for production safety."
