Re: Self Checkout - Yea or Nay?

The self check-out machines where I shop are much better now than they used to be. I think they have figured out the continuous hassle of having customers wait on employees to come override the machines was costing them more money that they were making. Technology has improved as well, so they are digging deeper and putting in better quality computers.

Re: Self Checkout - Yea or Nay?

My husband is a bagger, not a scanner. He is very particular about how things are bagged...maybe because he was a bag boy when he was in high school.😬

Re: Self Checkout - Yea or Nay?

My favorite grocery store has a scan and go option. I use a hand held scanner to ring myself up as I shop. I bag my items as I go. I take the scanner to the self checkout and the attendant cashed me out and takes the scanner. I like this system.

I prefer self checkout.  as for the woman arrested at walmart they were probably watching her on security cameras and saw that she wasn't scanning everything. also the woman at walmart might have been weighing her produce as items that cost less than what she was buying.

Re: Self Checkout - Yea or Nay?

I absolutely will not use self checkout.  I think it is a scam to make customers do it themselves so the stores don't have to hire more employees.  If I got a something of a discount on my purchases I may do it.  But I think it costs jobs, and I resent having to do a job and pay the same price for my purchases.  Having to unload your cart is bad enough.

The same goes for self-serve gas stations.  What a scam that is.  Oregon does NOT have self-serve and their gas prices are comparable to all the other states.  Oil companies making billions and customers having to pump their own gas?  A  con job on the consumers.

I don't do self-checkout because it never ends well.  I feel like if I wanted to check out stuff and bag groceries, I'd just get a job there.

Re: Self Checkout - Yea or Nay?

In response to those of you who suggest scanning your groceries is taking a job from someone...

Do you think perhaps your groceries cost less when you are inconvenienced for a whole two minutes scanning yourself? I live in an area of the country where groceries are very expensive. If scanning myself (which I prefer) saves a bit, I'll take it.

Yes it's a scam!!!  It's a con job!!  Oh my goodness anyplace with self-serve has evil intent to rip you off!!!  Consumer beware!!!  It's bad enough you have to unload your own cart.  LOL

Yea!  Prefer it to having customer behind me breathing down my neck, crowding my stuff, me, my cart.
