maybe it isnt that important to her to make a request?......some people dont really mind sitting anywhere as long as the food, service, company is good.

First of all, I never let them seat me at the smaller booth that just fits two people, even if it is just me and another person. Not roomy enough for me. I like the regular booth. You can put your purse next to you and when you have several dishes, there is room on the table.
Second, I don't want to sit where I can see into the kitchen either. My reason is that I am afraid of what I might see and I will never eat there again.
Of course there is the noise also.

I would rather be in a noisy booth, than seats out in the open.

I agree....I really dislike when the hostess slaps menus down on the table and runs off.....hate having to chase her down,lol....

Many years ago I waitressed at a beach hotel, very fancy place. We had tables and sections we called the "Ha Ha tables"... by the kitchen, bathroom, waiter stations, traffic pattern.
No one was seated there unless the restaurant was full. Even today I still avoid those spots whenever possible. I will offer to wait until a seat of my choosing is available too.
I have added another seat to my no-no list as I am older, a seat in a dark restaurant where I face a bright window. I hate looking across at my dining partner and seeing them in sillhouette and having the sun bounce off cars and right in my eyes.
Like other posters have said, I will not sit in a 2 people booth. I also avoid the last booth in a line since they are often tighter fitting when they make up for mismeasuring all the booths. I hate having my busom laying on the table!
I am very vocal when being seated and usually tell the hostess where I want to sit rather that simply following them like a lamb.
I realize they try to keep things even with the servers, but I don't see that as my issue.

I had a teacher back in college and he said when you go to a restaurant they will always seat you at the worst table first. He said he would always request a different table whenever he went anywhere. I don't think all restaurants I go to practice that but at least one does and I always request a different table there.

I hate booths. I always get smushed against the wall, or the booth is too tall and I feel like a little kid.
I agree with you on that. By making an issue of it the OP insulted her friend. That she would accept her offer to change places was unacceptable too. She shouldn't be surprised if her friend is unavailable to lunch in the future.
Wow! You got all that from the OP's two opening paragraphs??
