There are 2 Samsung  7 phones; the 7 note is having the problems while the 7s is fine.  If you have the 7 note then you need to exchange it for a different Samsung model or an LG or an I phone.

Love my iPhone 6S Plus. I'll probably upgrade next year, but not this year. Great phone!

I did have the Samsung Galaxy S3. I had no problems, but, I do much prefer the iPhone.

Re: Samsung Note Replacements are also catching fire

The reality of lithium ion battery design is that it's 95% science and engineering and 5% voodoo. Manufacturers just have to hope that 5% doesn't catch them. Pretty much every company making products with lithium ion batteries has had issues with them catching fire/exploding. Sony laptops had that issue a while back. Boeing had an issue with the lithium ion batteries in their newest jet aircraft. Any and every electronics manufacturer has had, or will have issues with lithium ion batteries. It's just a question of when. That 5% voodoo will jump up and bite every manufacturer at some point.

You can design a battery pack that's nearly identical to one you used earlier with just minor changes that shouldn't cause any trouble only to have the batteries start to catch fire or explode. In some cases there's no problem for the first month, six months, or a year then they start to have problems. Companies have spent millions trying to figure out the design vagaries of lithium ion batteries, but there's still enough voodoo involved that from time to time they'll jump up and bite the manufacturer.

Lithium ion batteries hold a lot of energy in a small package. That's what makes them both so popular and so potentially dangerous. When something goes wrong, all of that energy gets unleashed at once and you end up with a fire or explosion. No manufacturer wants there to be a problem, and they test and test and test, but even then, that voodoo will jump up and bite you.

Re: Samsung Note Replacements are also catching fire

I heard on the news this morning if you have a Note 7, whether it was the original or a replacement, you need to STOP using it and get a different phone.

I have an old Galaxy S4 and I've had no problems with it at all. I have had to replace the battery because my phone kept powering down.  The new replacement battery fixed my problem.  Until I can't use this phone anymore, I have no intention of getting anything new.

My DH has an LG phone and he would never get another.  He is going to get rid of his and get the Galaxy S7.  His phone is also old and it's not that it was a bad phone, but when something on it does go bad, it takes quite awhile for it to be fixed because no one keeps the parts in stock because it's not a popular phone.  He was also told that once one thing goes bad on an LG, it's generally a snowball effect and everything will start going bad.

A relative of mine has always had an iphone and according to him this has never happened to those phones.  He has urged me to get rid of my Samsung Galaxy as soon as possible for an iphone.  Don't know if he's accurate but that's his experience.

i still love and have faith in the samsung telephones.

i NEVER rush to get the new phones because many have kinks.

@sunshine45

I'm the same way with new phones or any electronics.....you won't ever see me standing in line outside a store waiting for the latest and greatest.....I too wait for them to get all the bugs out before I buy any new technology.....my friends rush out and seem to have nothing but problems.....anything from Windows 8 which had to be updated to 8.1 to get the kinks out...thats why I'm waiting to jump in to Windows 10....and I use the same philosophy with  new phones, TVs etc....it does pay to wait!!!---less aggravation for sure!

Samsung has announced they are junking the Note 7 permanently. Es finito bye-bye. I feel for anyone unable to get a refund on their replacement. What as disaster for Samsung. Ouch.

Owners can head to the retail outlet or carrier where it was purchased, or call 1-800-SAMSUNG to initiate a product exchange and to resolve any other questions or concerns. Samsung and all carriers or retail stores are accepting full returns. Owners can get their money back, return any accessories and more.
