Numerous Bay Area schools are shutting down and releasing kids early.
Unprecedented.

I can certainly sympathize with you about the heat. I am in So. Ca. and we are at 107 right now. Usually we cool off some at night, but because of these two high pressure systems we are sandwiched between, it's still in the 90's at night with winds coming off the desert. Very hard to keep the house cool with these temps as we are in a flex alert from So. Ca. Edison til 10:00 p.m. again. We're not supposed to use any major appliances and set our thermostats to 78 or higher. I'm worried about the power grid also. You'd think with the high rates we pay in Calif. for power, we could feel confident that there's enough to keep us comfortable. Keep cool and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Hard to believe how hot it is in some areas while we are having 66 degrees and rain. I love weather like this.
I hope those of you in the heat are able to stay comfortable.

Being on the northern end of the East Coast, I've never experienced a temperature that high, @Noel7! WOW! I'm shocked that there are no cooling centers in your area. There should be, as this seems to be a matter of public health. I've been thinking about removing my window-unit air conditioner this weekend because I haven't used it in weeks. It's cool here, especially at night. You don't want to go outside in something sleeveless today. Overnight, it's getting cooler and cooler. I'm not a fan of winter, but it is coming.

@suzyQ3 wrote:Socal is sweltering, too. We here at the beach thought we were spared at first because the high temps were only inland, but lo and behold, we've caught the bug yesterday and today. And of course, no A/C. Who needs A/C at the beach; right? Ha. Well, we're still cooler than those living inland, but then, most of them do have A/C (if there's power).
@Moonchilde, this weekend is Fiesta Hermosa. Not only will we attract those from inland looking for an ocean breeze but also all the folks who come for the Fiesta. Should be a wild weekend around here.
@suzyQ3, I think I've been to more Fiestas that were hot than were cool. It can get hot there because of the density of booths/people and the surrounding buildings. I'll always miss it. But my favorite substitute up here is the Capitola Art & Wine Festival, next weekend, when I can hope it's a little cooler. It's 100 there today, right on the sand.

@StylishLady wrote:Isn't there a cold ocean current from Alaska that dominates the weather in SF? Wonder what's going on.
I don't think so @StylishLady
SF is basically controlled by our marine layer and the coming and going of the fog.
And so are Santa Cruz and Monterey and all points along the coast between SF and SLO, pretty much.

I agree @WORKING GAL. PGE up here is always going down. 18,000 in the city were down for hours just recently.

Yes, there sure should be @OfCourse. Maybe I will find out who to contact and write a letter. A possible exercise in futility.

@ Moonchilde for sure others are thinking the same way you are....problems..I just can't take heat-and this past year and a half has been satanic for me-diabetes aside......my auto-immune tests are still sky high.....my right hand-especially my thumb joint, is swollen....AC is set to 69 @ night, fan blowing in addition...
I don't have diffuse pain-not fibro, but oh well, each day, another joint feels broken.
.
..don't mean to dump on you, or anybody else here, not for so many of us, heat issues....
Hugs,

How well I remember. There were days in LA where I would run the window a/c almost 24 hrs for maybe 3-4 days at a time in summer. My bldg got no breeze or cross-ventilation. Without that a/c, my apt was like a matchbox containing an ant, zeroed in on by a magnifying glass.
My room now gets no true cross-ventilation, but the house as a whole does.
I do anticipate a cool shower at some point, in order to sleep.
