Are you around here?  Our weather guy just said we're getting the smoke, too.  DH said he could smell it from the back of the house.

DD is in the city, she just called, it's 103 where she is.  I think that's a record breaker.

Personally, I am proclaiming this year as our "Angus horribillus ( sic) as Queen Elizabeth said once-based on weather alone.....

Back in 2004, Florida got hit with storm after storm-nothing compared to this however. Oil and production are in the heart of that general Gulf Coast region.

Our cities cater to vacationers....it hurt commerce here, but sprung back quickly.

We did not have to contend with major ports or rivers being compromised with flood waters....in every place affected here in Florida, we never had to deal with high concentrations of populations as you have in your vicinity.....

But we will make it-I so believe that now seeing how the country is coming together on this....

My faith is renewed.

The Department of Emergency Management is issuing Heat Advisories for the city, and asking people to check on the elderly, children, pets and anyone ill.  Advising them to get to cooling centers.

Here in the Seattle area they consider libraries cooling centers.

Here, too, but there are no libraries with AC.  They also suggest going to your church.  I know my church quite well, it has no AC, either.  And I went to the popular movie theater a couple of years ago on one of the really hot days... they don't have AC either.

We're supposed to hit 95 by Tuesday.  That's sweltering for us.  I am thankful that we decided to put in a/c a few years ago.  The senior centers should be cool, too.

You're right about that, too.  They think the electricity grid may fail, especially with so many fans going. I don't know how we'd make it if that happens.

@Noel7, plenty warm here at the house. We have things (drapes, etc) pretty shut until the sun goes behind the hill after 4 pm. All the ceiling fans going plus extras. I think niece's DH said our thermometer reads 100, weather says 95+, so I'll believe it. I need to get my camera out of the car, and my soda, which I'll be drinking faster. This is very rare for us along the coast. It was about 20 degrees cooler yesterday.

Carmel Valley is 104, even Pacific Grove is 97. Santa Cruz 108, Hollister 113!

Trying to do a little tidying/housecleaning but about 5 min/one task at a time :-(

We don't have a/c, and generally nothing electric happens at our house weekdays until after 8 pm, so we're no strain on the grid - but the areas all surrounding us, yes.

Socal is sweltering, too. We here at the beach thought we were spared at first because the high temps were only inland, but lo and behold, we've caught the bug yesterday and today. And of course, no A/C. Who needs A/C at the beach; right? Ha. Well, we're still cooler than those living inland, but then, most of them do have A/C (if there's power).

@Moonchilde, this weekend is Fiesta Hermosa. Not only will we attract those from inland looking for an ocean breeze but also all the folks who come for the Fiesta. Should be a wild weekend around here.

I can't speak for every library but my local library has AC and every movie theater I have been in does because I always freeze.  Not every restaurant does (I learned that the hard way).  

When I lived in Southern California if it got up to triple digits the local grocery store would let people bring lawn chairs and sit.

I'm glad to know you're OK @Moonchilde  My dermatologist says I have hardly any sweat glands, I really get hot and can't cool myself off.  I'm drinking a lot of some fancy water DD got for us, nagging DH to do the same.  We'll take very cool showers and start again.
