When you have an all volunteer military, and the vast majority of the population doesn't have to be involved with or even THINK about or be affected by combat, war, and the results.....What does that mean? Just a thought....On 1/18/2015 Qwackertoo said:I haven't seen it . . . and say what you will . . . but I think the majority of American's support Chris Kyle . . . The movie is a huge success.
Bradley Cooper by all accounts had an amazing performance.
Clint Eastwood hit it out of the park with this one.
The majority of Americans overwhelmingly support our soldiers and the job they do in support of and defending our country.
edit left out a word. added it.
I also support our soldiers. A small percentage of the population (our troops) is willing to do the work most of us don't want to do...and don't support, after they return from war - forever changed.
What I DON'T support are the misguided civilians who put these brave men and women in harm's way for no good reason at all....while watching their friends, the arms dealers and contractors, make BILLIONS.
What were we thinking - going along with the Iraq war????? The pols, press, most people - got it horribly wrong and the troops have to suffer for it for their entire lives.

I loved the movie, but I loved Whiplash too. Whiplash was phenomenal and hasn't gotten enough press. I saw the reviews on rotten tomatoes and knew I had to see it. I had no idea what the story was. It is incredible and J.K. Simmons was incredible in it!

Marien, your posts are always interesting and often thought provoking. There is dissonance between what we don't have to think about and the strong emotional response to what we are led to think about in movie and media fare.
Whether a sniper is to be lauded or condemned depends entirely on which end of the bullet people (all over the world) live or die.
Moore's uncle was shot in the back in war, his passion was consumed with snipers at a high school. His viewpoint is understandable. Why Rogen is condemned for his noticing a comparison appears to me to be one of intolerance for how others see what they refuse to see. Nobody has to agree with it but I do wish people would at least understand why people feel the way they do.
Name calling must feel good while living such a distance from the bullets. If someone is going to be branded a coward, let it be on every individual who doesn't lift a rifle aiming to kill or give more than lip service to those who do --- or stop with the name calling and condemnations -- the American right of self expression. When we all agree, we're in deep trouble.

I hope the movie makes billions, his wife shouldn't have been sued, Imo. I never liked Ventura..just something about him! I wish the best for Chris Kyle's family. Haven't they suffered enough? I would love to watch the movie, will wait for netflix etc. Don't think I could watch it in a theatre..too sensitive!
Same here emmysmom. I am beyond thrilled an American Hero is being honored by having a film of his story told. For any of us who do not know how much our men and women go through while serving and afterwards this should be a good reminder.
Michael More and Seth Rogan...are the cowards and despicable.
Well said croemer and emmysmom. So far the movie has made over 105 million. We will see it this week and I can't wait. A true, courageous American hero.
Michael Moore and Seth Rogan have always been cowards and disgusting human beings. Not worth the time of day!!

The only hero Michael Moore can understand are the hero sandwiches he stuffs into his obese body. What an a&&. Love these people who just don't get what our military men and women go through in combat. Even more so what they deal with when they finally make it home. If they do.

My husband and I saw it on Saturday, and I agree with winamac1 that Bradley Cooper certainly earned the nomination! Hard to watch at times, as it should be when trying to depict the realities of war... but I do not regret going, or shedding tears in public with so many others.

Thank you Cakers.
Moore tweeted, 'My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders R worse.' This was obviously directed at Kyle and the film.
I do not sympathize with Moore or see his POV nor will I try. His statement is ugly, self-serving and absurd. I could say there's a twinge of jealousy there as well but I won't.

This isn't about sympathy. Many were against the Iraq war, we were invaders no matter how it is framed.
