I read the book weeks ago and was stunned that after Chris Kyle spent four years being shot at while serving his country he ends up being killed by a disturbed veteran in a shooting range. I am, however, extremely happy for his wife and children that the movie turned out to be a huge success.

Well, for me after watching this movie, it made me realize what a better job we need to do taking care of our vets. We could definitely do a better job for them. Another thing is what a sacrifice these families make when they're husbands, brothers, fathers are over there protecting this country. It's the ultimate sacrifice...

The movie is a huge success.
Bradley Cooper by all accounts had an amazing performance.
Clint Eastwood hit it out of the park with this one.
The majority of Americans overwhelmingly support our soldiers and the job they do in support of and defending our country.

I hope the movie makes billions, his wife shouldn't have been sued, Imo. I never liked Ventura..just something about him! I wish the best for Chris Kyle's family. Haven't they suffered enough? I would love to watch the movie, will wait for netflix etc. Don't think I could watch it in a theatre..too sensitive!

I also support our soldiers. A small percentage of the population (our troops) is willing to do the work most of us don't want to do...and don't support, after they return from war - forever changed.
What I DON'T support are the misguided civilians who put these brave men and women in harm's way for no good reason at all....while watching their friends, the arms dealers and contractors, make BILLIONS.
What were we thinking - going along with the Iraq war????? The pols, press, most people - got it horribly wrong and the troops have to suffer for it for their entire lives.

I know who was doing the thinking.
I for one, marched in a local protest against Iraq....fat chance that had of doing anything, except I felt better.
It was framed that support was the "patriotic" thing to do...I think a LOT of people didn't have the guts to stand up to that thinking. My cousin was Special Ops before and during that time...he worked in the ME for years, speaks Arabic, and was STRONGLY anti-Iraq - but he did his duty and then was able to retire after 20 years of service.

Same here emmysmom. I am beyond thrilled an American Hero is being honored by having a film of his story told. For any of us who do not know how much our men and women go through while serving and afterwards this should be a good reminder.
Michael More and Seth Rogan...are the cowards and despicable.

I've not seen it yet but a good friend of mine did. She said the theatre was at capacity but yet when the movie was over, you could have heard a pin drop in the theatre and no one said a word walking out either.

I doubt we will go to see this, will wait for dvd. But thanks for the post and info.
To all those saying Sniper should win an Oscar etc. That they don't pick certain movies well you should be glad its up for movie of the year.
Because IMO LOTS of movies should win Oscars and never will! (Same with actors who never get recognized when they are better than some others).
I often think of the top grossing movies (likes the comic book movies IE Batman, Spiderman etc) or JUST for an example The Hunger Games etc. that sell the most tickets should be recognized more but nope theyre not.
Frankly last year I loved Dolphin Tale 2, Begin Again, and Fault in Our Stars. MORE than some of these movies up for an Oscar (movies I saw so far, didn't see them all yet but will). But does the Academy care? Nope.
This is not to say that ones up for Oscars (That I SAW SO FAR) aren't good, they are. Im just saying the ones I listed above I liked a lot but they will never get recognized.
Its one big click in Hollywood. Period.
