One video shows what might be the plane on fire as it's crashing. A catastrophic engine failure? Maybe an oxygen fire if the patient was on oxygen? This was a very unusual crash. Planes don't just crash like that.

That's a weird way for a plane to crash. If you didn't have confirmation it was a plane, you'd think it was a missile. Total control failure? It certainly had enough airspeed for the control surfaces to function. It was moving very, very quickly.
Earlier I watched a video of an explosion of a trash truck in Columbus OH (IIRC) - it was like a bomb going off and they said it was due to an oxygen tank that was discarded incorrectly. IF this was an air ambulance, I wonder if something like a medical oxygen failure/explosion or similiar could have caused this? My DH agrees with you that the trajectory was really strange (straight down), and says being full of fuel would only add to the disaster.
@isaboo I too thought of the saying of "comes in 3's". Hard praying that's not the case.

Yes, they are saying the plane exploded mid air.

There is conflicting reports on the number of people on board. FAA said two people on board. Waiting for more updates.

I live in the Philly suburbs and all stations are reporting a mid-size lear jet took off from Philly going to Missouri. It was classified as a medical mission but they only had two people in the plane.
Since it was going so far the fuel was full. Cottonman Ave is a large and very busy boulevard and that's where it crashed. Multiple fatalities are being reported.
Very bad situation.
