To move on, as he was jogging alongside Mollie, Rivera claimed he got scared when she threatened to call police, blanked out and "came to" when he saw Mollie's body in his car and then dumped her in the field. His story makes no sense and I just can't understand any defense attorney defending him.

And Rivera led the police to the body in the field!!  I have several friends who are defense attorneys. I have never understood how anyone can defend someone who has so obviously done the deed.

I know everyone is thought to be innocent until proven otherwise, but here the man confessed.  Am sure they will try to make a defense based on 'did not know what he was doing because he is sick and blacked out'.

     So sad!!!

Well she did threaten to call the police.  And there will likely be emphasis on how that scared him and threatened his very existence here not to mention the concern it generated in him as to what would happen to his family if he were deported.  I can see where this was just all to much for someone to have to endure - particularly given all the hatred in this country for innocent people like him who have to live in daily fear.  .I mean how can we really blame him.

Mollie was a bright, beautiful,  talented young woman, who should have lived a long, rich, full, life, dying, at maybe 90, leaving a family heartbroken, but, so grateful, for the time they had.

It wasnt to be😢

A monster took her life. Whether the monster shouldn’t have been here, or whether he shared her bed, it’s a tragedy, that we never really understand.  Please, don’t let it become political fodder!

RIP Mollie and God Bless her family and friends, as they struggle to find comfort and some kind of peace.

Shared her bed????

As an immigrant from U.K. whenever I was hired to work always had to show my 'green card' - plus SSN - plus my passport all of which were photo- copied by employer and checked out thoroughly.  However, there are so many fake documents out there now and so easily obtained it must be a nightmare.

Evil and crazy can come from any race, religion, or nationality.  I'd also like to add to this discussion that what does it matter that Mollie was young and pretty.  Very sad and tragic event, but what if she was not so pretty, older, dare I say darker, would this get any press coverage? Would we even know about it ?

Good question.  Unfortunately when people talk about not politicizing her death, first of all it was politicization that caused it in the first place - since we are apparently no longer allowed to enforce our laws due to political correctness. Again, had he not been here, she'd be alive today.

But secondly, there is - I'm sure you've noticed - a lot of anger toward her (that girl in Iowa)  et. al. -  for bringing the illegal immigration issue to the fore again.

And as to a lot of non coverage of murders of "darker" people, I think the reason we don't hear much uproar about Chicago for example is because the gun laws that are - on the one hand - touted as being the answer -  aren't being enforced there either.

@Isobel Archer  - some good points!  And that's disgraceful, just aweful, that there is anger with Mollie.

Like it or not, even the most horrible criminals are entitled to a fair trial.  Somebody will have to defend him.  It is so brutal for the family to endure.  Such a beautiful young woman taken so violently.

Also, not a political statement, but a statement of fact.  Illegal immigrants are widely employed in this country.  They do work most Americans do not want to do.  Who do you think picks our crops, cleans our large buildings and hotels, work in restaurant kitchens, etc., etc.?  And sometimes employers hire them because they are desperate for help and other times because they can underpay them,  It happens everywhere. How many Americans aspire to these jobs?  Not saying it is right, but a reality.

Again, let's not turn this into a political whirling dervish, but recently Weslyan University gave a special award to a janitor there, who has been here many years and undocumented.  I do know he has been here many years, but do not know any more than that.  His award was given for all the tutoring help he has freely given to college students there.  Seems he was a college professor before he came here and yet is happy to be here and work as a janitor.

Now I do not want to demean anyone who works in any job.  People who are honest and hard-working command my respect.  I am only saying there are jobs that are unskilled and low paying that most Americans do not want to do.  The solution?  I don"t have one.

This girl's death has already been used this morning to further a political agenda, despite the fact that statistics show most violent crimes in this country are perpetrated by our own citizens.

My friend had a very hard time applying for citizenship. An illegal immigrant from Central America had been using my friend's social security number for decades.

I spend every summer in Italy. We never had so much crime since millions of illegal aliens were allowed to live there.

When I lived in Italy we used to sleep every summer with all windows wide open. Now most families have air-conditioning and alarms.

Your sarcasm aside, he has confessed and is in custody, charged with first degree murder. The best he can hope for is life and not the death penalty. Her family does NOT want her death used as some Fox news talking point, and the stats on violent crime in this country do not support the claims made about undocumented immigrants versus our own citizens.
