Hi everyone. OMG I have been dealing with this very difficult customer. Extremely difficult. To make a long story short, she says that she disputed a charge with her credit card and her card has been cancelled. Does that make sense? I've never had to dispute a charge so I don't know the procedure but is that routine? I know if you report fraud they will cancel your card and send you a new one. TIA

Your card is not cancelled if you are disputing a charge. The card company will try to have you work it out, they will put a hold on the charge but that doesn't effect the card.

Wonder if she has disputed many charges and the card company said no more.
I disputed a charge many years ago and it turned out I made the charge but the name of the store I bought from and the name on the credit card posting were different. Parent company type of thing. No my cc was not cancelled.

maybe she thinks that if she cancels the card, you won't be able to collect.?
i feel sorry for you. i worked in customer service for years. Its never fun when you get a difficult or unreasonable customer.

Seems her angst should be towards the merchant, not the card.

It sounds to me like she filed a fraudulent charge claim rather than a dispute claim. If fraudulent use is suspected it would trigger closing the card and issuing a new one.
If you are in communication with the card issuer over the disputed charge I would suspect the disgruntled customer initiated the cancellation.

They only time they cancel the card is for fraudulent charges but they do issue a new one right away.
Why is she giving you a hard time, don't you work for a museum? She should be taking the issue up with the card company not you.

Over many years, I have had a couple of disputed charges (disreputable merchants). My credit card company has never been anything but accommodating and polite. I never had to pay anything and should not have had to for services not rendered by the merchant. It is difficult to imagine a cc company cancelling service when your patronage does nothing but make money for them.

Had some disputes and misunderstanding but always handled in a timely and polite manner.

Given the scenario you've given, it has nothing to do with you and is the customer's problem. Nothing for you to wonder about or stress over.
