Re: Ridgecrest just had a 7.1 quake

yeah -  this was a bigger one than the 4th.  about just as long -  this time i had things knocked off shelves.  just hope last night was the main event. according to Lucy Jones there is a 90 % chance it was.  of course we will have aftershocks galore for weeks, even longer.

Re: Ridgecrest just had a 7.1 quake

I live right in LA near the La Brea Tar Pits and it was quite a roller. I live upstairs and the building felt like it was swaying. It lasted quite a long time but no damage. I feel bad for those closer to the epicenter - scary. I just moved back to LA a few months ago and the last earthquake I experienced was the 1987 Whittier Narrows quake. Did not expect to feel one again so soon - just had my IKEA bookshelves installed and mounted to the wall - you gotta do that here.

Living in the Seattle Quake area.... this is so unnerving and I feel so bad for those displaced or just scared for the next shake.

I'm in north LA County and we are definitely feeling them, just had another small one a minute ago.  My son works in Ridgecrest and called the office and they all ran outside and saw all their neighbors all in the streets.

A little scary, but its better to have smaller ones to relieve pressure.  I have oversized letters spelling LOVE perched on one shelf and the "V" fell over.

As I'm typing this, just got anther aftershock...yikes, it might be a long night.

Thank you @CAcableGirl2 , our son was and may still be in Santa Barbara.... [ no texts yet].

I will follow your information-

*you are definitely ( in my known opinion) on target with excellent to factual anything. THANK YOU for this information.  Heart

@SeaMaiden, then you will appreciate this: A very close friend of mine in college was so traumatized by a fairly large earthquake we felt in West L.A. in about 1970 or so (I think it was centered in Sylmar in the Valley) that she moved to -- Seattle!

@CAcableGirl2, according to our beloved Lucy Jones, the earthquake expert, this is a myth. In fact, she was quoted about this in a Q & A in today's Los Angeles Times.

Re: Ridgecrest just had a 7.1 quake

Prayers for all in harm’s way! 🙏🏻

I still have two sisters living in my old home town of Santa Barbara. (Our parents recently moved away.) They both mildly felt the 6.4, but this latest 7.1 really rocked and rolled them. No injuries, TG or severe property damages either. They have electricity.

My oldest sister's boutique had items falling from shelves, and the clothing was swinging on their hangers. She managed to get outside, thinking the flooring and concrete below might crack open. She is still a bit dizzy today.

Youngest sister at home had the windows rattling, pictures on the wall tilted and her chandelier was swaying. Outside, her husband saw the pool making waves, before they bounced out. Their dog out there was terrified and hid below one of their vehicles.

I hope there will only be lessoning after-shocks now, and these aren't pre-cursors to larger quakes along these two fault lines.

Re: Ridgecrest just had a 7.1 quake

I live in Oxnard - and I didn't feel it. Neighbors did feel it - and the shaking was up/down the coast - far north to Santa Barbara. They also felt it in Nevada and Mexico.
