So my last order I plan to place from all of the home shopping channels finally came yeseterday after placing my order a couple weeks ago.  It was a TSV - a $79 (any size) down comforter, dobby striped. 

The UPS man handed  me a package about 2 x 2 - I thought - this isn't good.  When I opened it, it was super light, very flat and I immediately said to myself, this is going back.  I shook it a couple of times and compared it to my Northern Nights comforter I've had for 12 years.  It wasn't as puffy.  So I went and put it in the dryer and it fluffed up - the difference is I think this is ALL down, my Northern Nights has quills in it.  I used it last night and was VERY warm - it is very lightweight but sure keeps you warm.  I like the material on the outside also.  It is quieter than my Northern Nights (not as crunchy sounding).  So, all in all - it was a good purchase.  I know some of you have been looking for down comforters now that Northern Nights aren't doing their shows anymore.

 Good to know.  Good thing you gave that comforter a second chance and didn't return it right away.

 What ever happened to northern nights? Are they still on QVC? I like my northern nights down comforter. It seems thin but it's plenty warm. Washes beautifully.

@Another new name Sue - it's one of those products that is very limited online - remember when they had TSV's all the time?  Yes, I'm glad I held onto this and gave it a chance.  It's washable too.  That's what I like about my old Northern Nights - that I can wash it myself - but it is so tattered and torn - I've patched it up several times - still love it and won't get rid of my old one.

I personally won't do down anything but was in need of a new comforter.  Because my dog sleeps on the bed, I won't spend a lot of money on a comforter.

I bought a Home Classics reversible down alternative comforter from Kohls on cyber Monday for $24.00 with free s/h.  I've washed it weekly since I put it on the bed and it is holding up beautifully.  It is listed as light warmth.  It does keep you warm but it's not over the top hot.  For the summer, I will go back to my cheap "quilt" from K-mart though as I think this will be too much.

I did have to laugh though because the original price of this comforter at Kohls was listed at $119.99.  It's on sale right now for $59.99.  There is no way I'd pay $120.00 for this.

@Lipstickdiva - I know some people can't do down.  I smelled the comforter really good and can't smell any odd smells - it's hypercleaned.  I just love down - I can use it all summer long without getting too hot.  Down alternative just doesn't do it for me.  I think my first down comforter was my favorite purchase ever.  I bought it when I was in California, now I'm in Indiana and am that much more happy I purchased it.

Like LipstickDiva - no down for me either.  It's not about the smell, it's the animals. I do try to go as cruelty free as possible.

Thanks for the review. Mine just showed up at my door today. I have the one they did 6 years ago, and I love it so much. Year round. Not too hot, not too cold. Can use it in the summer (when A/C's are running) and you do not feel smothered/too hot.

I was hoping that with the strides they have made in 6 years in the way they can clean the down to just get the fluffy stuff (no quils) that this one will be just a good.

I reallllly liked the one from 6 years ago, but I have washed it so many times it is looking...well, lets just say I had to put duvets over it for the last two years to make it look not shabby. But it never failed at keeping me comfortable, summer or winter.
