Bronx girl, too. But moved to Queens so I got my green stamps there. Still have an avocado green hand mixer that I got with green stamps!

@Puggywuggy  I didn't lick the stamps either. I used a wet sponge in a dish.

@Kachina624

I remember them, in fact we passed an old Shopping Center today that used to have a green stamp store. I mostly remember stamps when we live in Dallas but I know Mom was still saving them when we moved to East Texas.

oh yes. Those green stamps were the thing in my family also. When I would visit my family in florida in the 70s there was a green stamp store.  Also does anyone ever remember going to a movie theater back in the 60s and you would get a piece of dinnerware? My gramma was real big with that. You would think she got a million bucks. So cute.

@branny

     What part of the country did you get the dinnerware at the Theater ?

 My husband remembers getting free box of candy with a rope  handle around Christmas time in western NY .

I don't remember getting any freebies where I lived in Md.

@Enufstuff.  That's what I did, put a kitchen sponge in a saucer with a little water.

We saved more Blue Stamps (from the IGA grocery store, gas stations, and Dillard's) than green stamps. IIRC, the Blue Stamps were around much longer and (later) in many more businesses.

Best of all, the completed Blue Stamp booklets were like cash in the businesses! I bought so many things prior to our marriage with those stamps (stainless steel pots & pans that I'm still using!), our first set of pillows and bedding (including bedspread), and a couple of classic table lamps (still in the family room) all from Miller & Paine (now Dillard's). Helped us so much financially since we were both students and didn't have much money for the first couple of years of marriage!

A great idea, way back in those days.

Much better than clipping or clicking coupons.   (IMO)

Now-a-days, I would prefer two-week sale ads.

I love my Trader Joe's, because no weekly sales or ads to worry about (having to rush into the store by the end of the sale).

'Anyway', back to the topic, great idea 'way back when'.

My mom collected those too but I can't remember what she bought with them. I would be fun to remember.
