I am very sorry to hear this.
I never had the chance to ask my maternal Gramma how she and her family made it through that 1918 pandemic.
My Gramma was young then, but old enough to remember those times.
She didn't always talk about her childhood because she didn't think that we in the family would be interested in hearing about it, for some reason.
The only thing that I can possibly think of is that all of the family at the time might have been living up in rural--and what would have also been--very remote northern Wisconsin at that time on some farmland that my family had up there.
They had lived there for many years before moving back to Illinois in the 1920s.

Jeanbhv, I echo your thread. In my case, substitute the word "grandfather" for "grandmother."
