I thought it would be interesting to have a thread where we can post random thoughts about Queen Elizabeth.
For example:
I think she had the strength of character of her mother, the late Queen Mother.
During WWII the Queen Consort Elizabeth refused to leave London for safety. She said, "The girls won't go without me. I won't leave without the King. The King won't leave."

I can't help but think how she was never destined to be Queen of England. She was not raised from birth with those expectations and pressures on her. But yet at the age of ten when her uncle abdicated the throne all of that changed. Then her father, King George, after serving as King for around 15 years died and she suddenly became Queen at the young age of 25. And she went on to serve her country admirably, graciously, and relentlessly for seventy years...her last official service coming just two days before her death. Remarkable...simply remarkable!
This is a sad, sad day and the end of an era.

Total respect for the Queen mother never to be witness again...she hung in there to the end with good reason.

A romantic time coming to an end.

In early 1945 at age 19
" That February she joined the Women’s Auxillary Territory Service (similar to the American Women’s Army Corps or WACs), registered as inductee No. 230873 under the name Elizabeth Windsor. The ATS provided key support during the war, with its members serving as anti-aircraft gunners, radio operators, mechanics and drivers. "

@phoenixbrd Queen Elizabeth was not the queen mother. She was the Queen. Her mother, however, was the queen mother once her daughter ascended to the throne.

@MamaWick Thanks for the correction. I was thinking metaphorically rather than literally, I appreciate your comment.

The Queens broadcast speech on Covid was so comforting. Great leadership.
