Anyone else besides me say rabbit rabbit on the first of the month?  

If you say rabbit rabbit first thing on the 1st, you’ll have good luck for the rest of the month.

I’ve been saying it faithfully since 2nd grade. My whole family has since then and now my sister’s adult children do. 

I went to 2nd grade outside of Boston. I don’t know if it’s a regional thing or not.

@gidgetgh ; Nah, I always forget and start talking to our dog as I get up.

So, never remember to say rabbit, rabbit before that.

My luck's been pretty good anyway.

It’s funny....I reconnected with an old elementary school friend several years ago on Facebook and I mentioned it one day and she said she faithfully says it also.

I’ve heard Robin Roberts say it on Good Morning America also.

My family began that when our older son learned it from his 3rd grade teacher. Another version is "bunny-bunny" which is the title of Gilda Radner's biography.

@gidgetgh @Never heard of it but I like it.I always pick up pennies wherever I see them.i remember learning “find a penny pick it up and all the day have good luck”.I feel certain that if I don’t pick up that penny when I encounter one,I will have bad luck.

Do you say those two words before any others on the first day of the month? It’s a quirky little tradition that many follow. But where did it come from and what does it mean?

Why A Rabbit?

According to superstition, saying “rabbit rabbit” before anything else on the first day of the month will bring you good luck for 30 days. But why? And why rabbits and not another animal?

There seems to be some confusion about the actual origination of the phrase, but the first written record of saying “rabbit, rabbit” on the first day of the month can be traced back to a 1909 British periodical called Notes And Queries, where the author indicates that his daughters always say “Rabbits!” on the first day of a new month for luck.  The word must be said aloud, and be the first word spoken for the day. While he provides no specific explanation, it is most likely connected to the fact that rabbits are associated with luck, which they have been for over 2,000 years.

I've never heard of it but who knows, it can't hurt and might help. I only just now saw this post so it is not the first thing in the morning but I said "rabbit rabbit" right after reading it.
