Thanks for the info. I do have a drop of English blood, and I do admire the Queen. She has fulfilled her duties throughout difficult times with grace and dignity. I've been so lucky to visit England and to have such happy memories. I would have trouble keeping my chin up going down stairs - I could easily trip and cause a chain reaction.

All ministers, etc., who are CofE members take an oath of loyalty to the queen:
On the advice of the Prime Minister The Queen appoints Archbishops, Bishops and Deans of the Church of England, who then swear an oath of allegiance and pay homage to HerMajesty. Church of England deacons and parish priests also swear an oath of allegiance to the Sovereign.
You have to grow up with this stuff to deal with it.
(I'd also like to know - the big guys like the bishops have to swear an oath of allegiance AND pay homage to Her Majesty, but the small fry deacons and parish priests just have to swear an oath of allegiance. So what exactly is paying homage? Maybe that happens at dinner, ha.)
I'm guessing they are just following tradition @stuyvesant The Queen probably goes on the advice of church leaders, she can't possibly know them all.
Most of what the monarchy does seems to be tradition imo.

Maybe in your neck of the woods religion is just following tradition but in my neighborhood people really believe and practice it.

Camilla and you are probably related ... twins! @Noel7

Who said "JUST"? As in without belief? Not I. @stuyvesant
Most religions I know follow old traditions that are very important to worshipers.

As an American, I don't understand this, but the British take it very seriously, and it must be respected.
Every monarch of any European dynasty is considered to be anointed by G-d .
Even though we are Americans and this country of the new traditions and everything, those of us who are of the European descent should understand this. I loved to watch that coronation documentary with the Queens comments. Incredible procedure!
@SANNA No. The British coronation ceremony is more medeival than other European countries.
Being sacredly confirmed as the Head of the Church of England has no counterpart in any other European nation.
French coronational traditions were much more older and pompeuse, the processions walked on foot all the way to Reims where the coronations took place. Unfortunately the French Revolution stopped the monarchy and the country became a republic.
As for the Church leadership up until Henry VIII England was under the rule of Pope.

Did she ever have any choice in the matter?
It woud be very interesting to know what life she would have wanted to live if she hadn't been born into that family. Of course, it's highly unlikely we'll never know who the "real" Elizabeth would (or could) have been.

Love it...the Queen, it has been stated, has a lovely smile and this certainly proves it.
OMG...The Queen's chin is not parallel to the floor! Time for a beheading...JK!

Elizabeth was no slouch. During WW2 she was a driver and a mechanic. She drove an ambulance into war torn areas of London and she knew how to fix mechanical things on the ambulance and automobiles.
She still has a love for driving and often went off driving by herself. I've seen photos. I don't know if she still does it to this day.
