I will say that America was generally mysogonistic during the early years of Playboy. Women couldn't easily get a credit card on their own, the bunny costumes were brutal, women in general got ahead by using their beauty or marrying.
Some women still do that today.

It was reported today that his wife Crystal will be getting $5 million dollars. Good for her. She wasted her baby making years on him when she could have been out there finding a real mate closer to her age and more compatible.

WOW ... very surprising comment. Why would you think that she wanted children ... or that she "wasted her baby making years" married to HH? SMH

She also got a $7 million home. I'm not sure she can afford that home with taxes and upkeep. Maybe she'll sell it and buy something cheaper and save the rest.

Only wasted if you assume the primary desire of every adult female is poppin' out babies.

@Free2be wrote:I don't believe that Hefner was a mysoginist. He didn't harbor ill feelings toward women. He seemed much more trusting than suspicious of them with all the business dealings and having a bevy of them fawning over him. Men will always find ways to cope with the what can seem to them as the mystery of everything female -- good ways, evil ways, and everything in between.
Some history on how females have been treated poorly at the opposite end of the American spectrum: during the times the Puritans settled in North America some of the earliest criminal prosecutions and death sentences by hanging were against females -- for being a Quaker, for a murder committed by a delusional woman (mental illness was no excuse), for witchcraft because her patients became worse under her care. It was made unlawful for a married female to make any financial decisions. I've read that a law was attempted (and failed) to force females to wear veils but I have not yet found it in historical writing.
Maybe we can evolve into a time when respect for the totality of everything female with all rights being equal, protected, and honored, are common shared values even if our politics are different. Maybe we can honor those who choose to display their beauty however they wish, within the law of course. We can't ban males from being part of it.
In contemplating Puritanism, it baffles me that people of any intellect would want that kind of America again yet some do profess this is our country's birthright, to "take our country back" to whatever it is they imagine that to be. It was good for the white males but we have to get serious about practicing freedom without encroachments or coercions. The Handmaid's Tale is a good reminder to allow others to dance in their spot while we each do the same. I think Hefner would agree with that.
I would sooo like to elaborate on your last paragraph (with which I totally agree, as well as the rest of your post), but it would get poofed pretty quickly for obvious reasons.

I do feel very sorry for Mr. Hefner, regret for the type of life he lived and encouraged several generations of people to live.
Perhaps, at the end, he regretted it in his heart. I'm going to hope for that.
Nothing wrong with your post at all. I get the gist of what you're saying. Your second and third paragraphs sums up how I felt when hearing about his death. There is power behind the message and gift of the one you're referring to, which can appear to be weak and narrow to most.

@Tinkrbl44Why would you think she didn't? She was 26 and he was 86 when they married. Now she will be able to afford any medical procedure necessary to have children with a man closer to her own age if she so desires.

LOL this thread is still going...
I could NOT imagine sleeping with HH for any amount of $$...
All his girls (lol) look the same, imho.. That place looked SO depressing... Reading about his life does not sound happy.
I think those bunny suits are cute....and would be a nice for dressing for that 'special' man in your life.... in a special relationship/marriage... I love the black 'n white and cuffs and ears.
..........Why'd the blond climb over the chain link fence ???
To see what was on the other side : )...............

@truffle, We can assume the the woman was not coerced into marrying HH. If she did want children, evidently not enough to give up the 5 million. These days, women are not programmed to get married and have children not to mention finding a compatible mate. They live in the moment. Obviously she was happy with her arrangement and took the chance that she would outlive him. Who knows, the prenup could have been for preset number of years. Bottom line....having children is not the end game any more.
