I woke up this morning to hear that Gordon Lightfoot has passed at 85. He had such soothing music. My two favorite song, which I'm sure others would agree, were "Carefree Highway and Beautiful." I also, remember the haunting Edmund Fitzgerald. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

I read about his death in the middle of the night. It surprised me that he was 84. It always shocks me to hear the ages of those we listened to when we were younger. Like I think time will stand still for them or something.

gidgetgh, Yes I agree! Little by little my past is fading away. I was a big Al Jarreau fan in the 80's. During that year a lot of celebrities were dying. (George MIchael, and I think Michael Jackson & Prince) When my husband and I were dating we listened to Al Jarreau's music. We would often dance to a local band that played his music. A lot of memories were involved, so his passing was hard. By the way, I stand corrected that Gordon Lightfoot was 84, not 85.

So sad, he had so much talent. If you Could Read my Mind has been replaying in my mind since I read of his passing yesterday.

I absolutely love Lightfoot. Playing his music got me through college and professional school (calming me studying for exams) and I have seen him over last 50-plus years about 30 times live in concert, usually sitting second row center. The last time I had tickets for one of his concerts a few years ago, it was postponed due to his health and I cashed in my ticket rather than going on the postponed date, because by that time his voice was not what it used to be.
His music was a part of my life starting in college and will always be. My favorite song is If You Could Read My Mind but there are dozens that I love almost as much. He was a great singer song writer and I am very sad at his death.

😔😢 This one really hurts. The Minstrel of the Dawn is gone. Rest in peace, Mr. Lightfoot.

i'm listening to the album, "Gord's Gold" right now in his memory. "Sundown " is playing. He has been one of my favorites since I first heard him on a radio show in Chicago called the "Midnight Special" way back in the late '60s when I was a teenager. He was a modern-day minstrel. Like I said. In my earlier comment, this one really hurts.

I hope he is indeed reading all our minds. . .

He sang the song about the Edmund Fitzgerald. He had a soothing voice. RIP.
