@Sweet Kitties   I was a big Al Jarreau fan too.  Still listen to his music.  Great voice.   I am saddened to hear about Gordon Lightfoot too.

RIP Gordon Lightfoot

"Rainy day people always seem to know when it's time to call . . .
High stepping strutters who land in the gutter sometimes need one too . . .
Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell you, they've been down there too
Rainy day people don't mind if you're cryin' a tear or two.
Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside they just pass it on."

He was as much a poet as Bob Dylan and I wish he had also won a Nobel Prize.

"Did she mention my name just in passing?

And looking at the rain do you remember if she dropped a name or two?

Won't you say hello from someone, there'll be no need to explain

And by the way, did she mention my name?"

Was so sad when I heard it this morning .   When I hear one of his songs brings me right back to where I was , who I was dating etc.

2  songs I especially have loved are Sundown , and Rainy day People !   For some reason today though If You Could Read My Mibe keeps running in my mind...

@Sweet Kitties wrote:

I woke up this morning to hear that Gordon Lightfoot has passed at 85. He had such soothing music. My two favorite song, which I'm sure others would agree, were "Carefree Highway and Beautiful." I also, remember the haunting Edmund Fitzgerald. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

Is he the one who did "If You Could Read My Mind"?    That's what popped into my mind when I first saw your post.  @Sweet Kitties

He has been my favorite artist since I was 15 years old. His music has buoyed me throught some of the toughest and happiest moments of my life.

Put simply, he was magic.

It’s a shame that he passed away. I love If You Could Read My Mind. I read somewhere that he wrote that song to his wife towards the end of their marriage that was falling apart.

Years later his daughter asked him to change one word in that song when he sang it at his concerts. When he says, I’m just trying to understand the feelings that YOU lack, she asked him to change it to, I’m just trying to understand the feelings that WE lack. So he did.

In the final verse of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Gordon sang: "The church bell chimed til it rang 29 times/For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald."

Each November on the anniversary of the ship's sinking, the Mariners' Church of Detroit rings its bell 29 times in memory of those lost seamen. On Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., the Mariners' Church rang the bell 30 times, 29 for the lost seamen and once for Gordon Lightfoot who immortalized them in song.  😢
