I seem to be taking this death very personally. He was my first big crush and he contributed in one way or another to my style, my creativity, and my outlook on perceiving people for who they really are. I had a big talk with my 13 year old students today about how important he was in contributing to how people are accepted no matter who you are. Everyone is an individual, be who you want to be. Thank you David.

What a loss. He has been one of my favorites for many years, such a wonderful singer and actor too. So many great songs and an enduring legacy. RIP.

Lovely post. ITA.
David Bowie definitely walked to a beat of a different drum. MANY of that era did. Many of today's artists want to 'fit in' to be successful. If any artist steps outside that cookie-cutter mold, they are Internet fodder.
Marilyn Manson was quoted today saying David Bowie was a HUGE influence on his style & music.
Kanye, Bjork are two that come to mind...the public has a hard time understanding their vision, but they still do what they do. Like it, Hate it....I still respect their vision. You don't have to 'get it' to appreciate it.
I wish more people would see the bigger picture & appreciate these artists, of current time, before it's too late & they're no longer here to create.

So very sad to hear this. I have enjoyed him throughout his reincarnations over the years. Even remember seeing him sing the drummer boy with bing crosby on tv, that was quite the sight! His genius will be missed. I can imagine Iman is devastated by his passing.

I guess only a few knew how terminally ill David was. He tried to keep active, but didn't want people to know how bad it was. Iman respected his wishes, that is why she just went on with her HSN and charity work. Even an old time publisist of David;s didn't know he was that sick. One friend said he got an email from David a few days ago, joking as he usually did, and told him what good times he had with that person, and that he loved him. It wasn't until he was told David died that he realized it was a good bye. I guess many people got emails.
Iman instagramed the day before he died a few quotes, now it makes sense. One quote she instagrammed was.
Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

and he did.

I think that could be said of every generation that comes along.

The latest issue of New York Magazine has a review of the CD which was just released, wierdly coincidental.
I glanced at it, wondering if the article would have been written differently this week.
