My best friend's family camp is like that. You have to go off the main road to Old Forge (just a two lane street)...go down a winding dirt road around a lake. Park - then scoot down the rocks to the camp by the lake shore. If it's raining or snowy - you'll have to slide down on your bum! You can't even see the camp from the parking pad.
It's so remote - especially far north like where the prison is - that a lot of places get mail by the mail boat that travels on the connecting lakes...NOT on roads.
My SO's camp at Lake George is the opposite - nice roads, up a mountain looking down on the lake and dock...close (5-6 minutes) to the Sagamore...a magnificent grand old resort.

I'm in Saratoga Springs, not too far from Lake George. Love it here, winter and summer. I'm one of those idiots that love the snow. I tell you even this far away, we've made sure our doors and cars are locked at night. That said, when the girlfriend bailed out on them, their ability to get far on foot without being spotted was slim. Especially in that area. As someone said on this thread, that's why the prison is way out there.
Don't forget, it wasn't a CO that helped these two criminals, it was a civilian employee of the Department who worked in the tailor shop.

Saratoga Springs is beautiful! We stop there a lot on our way to camp...so many great places to eat.
The western side of the Adirondacks is a LOT wilder, IMO.
BTW - I'm the one who said that the prison is next to nothing in nowheresville.

Just in:
"They are on top of Sweat."
Whatever that means, I guess it means they see him.

Great coverage on CNN. It does sound like they have their eyes on him. Hopefully this will be over soon.

This is one thankful Mother, my son has been up there twice working the search,. In fact he got word again today that he would have to go again Sunday.

I hope they are able to apprehend Sweat without any difficulty or anyone getting hurt.
BMP, grateful your son is okay. I will keep my fingers crossed that they get Sweat either tonight or tomorrow.....that way maybe your son won't have to go again on Sunday!!!!

I wonder what's taking so long if they've had eyes on Sweat?
Word is, they want to take him alive.
