Re: REPLACING REAL DIAMOND WITH A CZ

I knocked my diamond off but found it as well way back in 1975. Had it set in shorter prongs too.  Wore it until I worked in retail unpacking boxes and noticed when I wore the ring it landed on the top of the box and had I slid my hand down inside the box, the stone would have popped off again. So I took it off and haven't put it back on.That is prob 20 years ago. In fact I sold it a few years ago as I'm not a diamond person and it really wasn't that sentimental to me. The hubs is still around but not very sentimental either-----he has never even mentioned it at all.

I've been insuring my engagement ring as I'm afraid I'll lose my center stone.  I've been thinking of taking the diamond out and replacing it with a CZ and keeping the real diamond in a safe.  Have any of you replaced your stone with a CZ?  I'd be saving $45.00 a month!

No, life is too short to put away my engagement ring or replace the diamond with a simulant. I do have a lovely baguette diamonique band from QVC when I travel but I maintain the prongs on the setting of my engagement ring and never worry about losing it.

Re: REPLACING REAL DIAMOND WITH A CZ

If you decide to replace, I'd. suggest a nice white sapphire, or a moissanite (which someone else mentioned) I did not replace my stone, but had a dupe made with a moissanite.  Wear original ring when I know I won't be doing anything rough, wear dupe when I don't know what might be on the agenda, or when I'm traveling.

I'm happy and one less thing to worry about.  Diamond is still insured, 'cause I'm a klutz!

I don't think you'll fool anyone with a CZ but you might with a Moissanite as they're so much more realistic.  You can buy unset stones from the manufacturer, Charles & Calvary.  They are beautifully sparkly.

Thanks, I might check into that!

You may be interested in a forever brilliant moissanite.  It's on my list next time I buy one.

Re: REPLACING REAL DIAMOND WITH A CZ

@hoosieroriginal. I agree about wearing your diamond engagement ring. Although mine is over 2 carats (an oval), it's been appraised and insured for the replacement value. It's not like Kim K.'s and doubt if I'd be hit over the head to take it off my finger. If replaced w/ a CZ that size, what a shame to be "hurt" for something & not even real.

My husband gave it to with love and I only take it off at bedtime and when working in my studio. It was given to me to wear & enjoy. When traveling if I feel I'm in a seedy section of town, I just turn it around on my finger.

I go w/ Joan Rivers who wore her good jewelry always and said "Life's too short"...use my silver, good China and crystal too. Not doing me any good in the cabinet. Enjoy the nice things you have.

My diamond engagement ring is not large - 3/4 carat, but there is no CZ I have bought - and I have some expensive ones - that come close to the sparkle (and this after over 30 years of daily wear).  There really is nothing like a real diamond.

@Shanus - I had never heard Joan say that, but it's true- when someone has gifted you something, especially an engagement ring - wear it and enjoy it and what it represents!  Why stick it in a box where you don't get to look at it and enjoy it?  Stuff happens - but that's life.

@hoosieroriginal. Joan always said "Life's too Short" & Do It Now". Many years ago she did a bracelet with the words "Do It Now".

I heard Joan Rivers say she put her real jewelry in a safety deposit box and only wore copies in public.  It was because she received so many compliments on the copies that she decided to good into the fashion jewelry business.

While my jewelry is not worth tons of money, it is all real.  My husband worked in the islands where much of it was purchased for much less than what you'd pay here.  The thought has never crossed my mind that I would be robbed and should replace the real stones with fakes.
