I haven't been to a public library since my daughter was in high school. It's hard to believe that these days libraries don't require people to be quiet and respectful of others. I don't know why I'm surprised though.

@monicakm

Now that you mention it, I sometimes find a lot of kids in our library, accompanied by an adult or two, and seem to be kept on a short leash.

They are quiet, so our library must be enforcing the keep quiet rule.

Now I appreciate my library even more.   Woman Happy

Re: REMEMBER THE DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM?

My dad took us to the local library when we were small every Friday night.  Loved going there.  I moved back to the area and I believe it's still open.  I need to go check it out.  It's a very small branch compared to the library I use now, but I want to visit it.

As addendum to my posting: I now avoid our local library ,it has become a playground for children,too noisy. I'd like to see specials hours just for adults,no children. And not in the evening,many seniors do not get out after dark.

I got my first library card when I was 4 years old. I really enjoyed going to the library,not so much today and I want a BOOK,not an e-book.

You live in an area far different than I'm accustomed to @Group 5 minus 1. The four libraries I frequent all have children's areas, and the adult section is quiet. Two sit in the middle of their cities, and I probably wouldn't walk to them after dark, but the other two are just a stroll from homes and senior apartments. They seem very safe. I wonder if you might be able to find another library. Most don't limit you by which library card you have - at least that's how it works here

@Love orchids   That is very interesting that we share names and

                         some other things in common. You must be a child of the 50's, too. That name was popular, back then.

in Community Chat "Happy St. Patrick's Day".

 You can see more of her dresses if you go to the top of the page

and type in Toni Doll in the Search Forums & Blogs space, then just click on the ones that you would like to see.

Yes indeed

I have loved libraries since I was a kid, and I also have many happy memories of going there with my Mother as a child and as an adult.

Yes they no longer enforce strict quiet rules, that and other things have changed and change happens as part of life. But the most important things about libraries will never change, at least in the part of the country where I live. Those things are sacred and should never change.

When I'm at my local library I feel a sense of freedom, peace, and comfort. And I love the fact that learning just one new thing is always at my fingertips.
