Thank you for your desciption of your library experiences. I, too, was a Library Assistant in my Junior and Senior years. My parents had transferred me from a local Catholic High School - where I had many friends with the same educational background.
I was sorta lost in the large public school. The Librarian took me under her protective wing. And, of course, I became very familiar with the DDS since I had to put the returned books back. And help other students use the DDS to find the books they were looking for.
I will never forgot the Librarian's kindness.

@AnikaBrodie I was also a library assistant to the librarian in high school. I still remember I book a found there that I woud never have otherwise looked at named "Captain from Castille" What a odd thing to remember. Not my usual type of book at all, but stayed in my memory.
We also have a very good library in my town and thankfully it is a member of a consortium so there is a wide range of books available us. A shame our local library orders less books because of a local tax levy not passing.
I look on line at Barnes & Nobel site for new books coming soon and put them on reserve at my library. I stay up too late and read way too much! Right now I have 3 books to return to the library and a stack of 6 to read and see that one I have on reserve has been shipped to my account at the library.

@Kachina624 Both are great, but they're completely different experiences in my opinion.

The schools in this county do not publish Honor Rolls anymore.

@monicakm wrote:I haven't been to a public library since my daughter was in high school. It's hard to believe that these days libraries don't require people to be quiet and respectful of others. I don't know why I'm surprised though.
Now that you mention it, I sometimes find a lot of kids in our library, accompanied by an adult or two, and seem to be kept on a short leash.
They are quiet, so our library must be enforcing the keep quiet rule.
Now I appreciate my library even more. ![]()

My dad took us to the local library when we were small every Friday night. Loved going there. I moved back to the area and I believe it's still open. I need to go check it out. It's a very small branch compared to the library I use now, but I want to visit it.

@Group 5 minus 1 wrote:As addendum to my posting: I now avoid our local library ,it has become a playground for children, too noisy. I'd like to see specials hours just for adults,no children. And not in the evening, many seniors do not get out after dark.
I got my first library card when I was 4 years old. I really enjoyed going to the library, not so much today and I want a BOOK,not an e-book.
You live in an area far different than I'm accustomed to @Group 5 minus 1. The four libraries I frequent all have children's areas, and the adult section is quiet. Two sit in the middle of their cities, and I probably wouldn't walk to them after dark, but the other two are just a stroll from homes and senior apartments. They seem very safe. I wonder if you might be able to find another library. Most don't limit you by which library card you have - at least that's how it works here

@Love orchids That is very interesting that we share names and
some other things in common. You must be a child of the 50's, too. That name was popular, back then.
If you would like to see Toni in her St. Patrick's Day outfit, it is
in Community Chat "Happy St. Patrick's Day".
You can see more of her dresses if you go to the top of the page
and type in Toni Doll in the Search Forums & Blogs space, then just click on the ones that you would like to see.
